WEEK 3 - NIGHTSHADE
Finally, the whole truth of this affair had come out.
The Witch they had known as Yuuko was actually Nirrti, the Witch of Misfortune.
And Watanuki was actually the real Witch of Dimensions, as the two of them fought over the power that title brought, as well as the name and identity of a long dead woman...🗈
The Witch they had known as Yuuko was actually Nirrti, the Witch of Misfortune.
And Watanuki was actually the real Witch of Dimensions, as the two of them fought over the power that title brought, as well as the name and identity of a long dead woman...🗈
Though things had finally changed, perhaps it wouldn't be for the better. Nirrti herself seemed much different than how she was before, and Watanuki was the one who had brought all of them here...with that in mind, it was hard to tell how their future would shake out...
However, it wasn't all bad. A few more places were open to them, the second floor becoming a much more inviting place to be, and there was still everything they had gotten used to before. And now, they all knew that Nirrti's promises were nothing but empty air...
...or, perhaps, now they would merely change.

MONDAY
AN ANNOUNCEMENT
Good morning, dear pieces. I trust you had a pleasant weekend after everything that happened...? *giggle*
[She walks a bit towards them, still in the dress she's always been in, black flames - those cold, terrifying flames of misfortune - running up and down along her arms in what is unmistakably a show of power.]
As I said before, I am Nirrti - the Witch of Misfortune. My true title being revealed, however, means that I am no longer able to grant you wishes in the way that the Witch of Dimensions could - so please, don't expect that of me.
Howeeeeeeveeeer...that doesn't mean I don't have power of my own. And, in fact...with my true power, I am much, much greater.
[Stopping just before them, she grins - and then lifts her arms towards them, as if beseeching them to come to her.]
I have the ability to grant or reverse any Misfortune. For the price of one of your fellow piece's life....I can do a single act for you.
...Ah, but I should clarify, riiiiight? There's no way you'd understand just from that, of course.
If that still isn't clear...let me ask you something. How do you think the dead are coming back? Although I have made them my pieces, they were still returned to life...something that should be impossible, yes?
[She snaps her fingers, and a goat brings out a single orange - which she points at, and it instantly rots.]
This orange had the Misfortune to suddenly rot far before its time. But...
[She makes a 'come here' motion...and the orange is suddenly restored back to normal.]
...by merely reversing that Misfortune, it's like it never happened in the first place, you see? *giggle*
Of course, this also applies to humans, or even events. I can make it so that an event never took place in your history. And, of course, if I win...I'll happily place you back in your world, with that misfortune reversed. All you have to do...is just kill someone, and then work with me in order to make sure I win.
It's more than a fair trade, riiiiiight? After all, it doesn't have to be used on you. I can use it on anyone you wish....even those that have died in your worlds.
Imagine it...being with them once again, their death having never happened. Or, you could happily live your life without any major pain or horrible event having happened to you...a normal, happy life.
...Then again, I can also grant misfortune to your enemies. I could make a single person's life a living hell...or even a group of people. If you wish, I could even plunge your entire world into a despair no one has ever seen before, hahahahaaaaa~~!!
....So, please. Think carefully about it.
What would you do...to control, just for a moment...Misfortune itself...?
Kyahahahaa....ehehehehehahahahayaaaaa~!!!
[With a shrill laugh, the flames on her body burn...and envelop her, until nothing else remains -
Nothing, except for the faint echo of her words...]

after the announcement
[Watanuki doesn't appear in a flourish like Nirrti does. In fact, it might just seem like he simply walked into the room, though there's the scent of sakura blossoms and a few petals scattered on the floor to show how he really arrived. This one is a bit more reserved in his magic-use, it seems.
And he's standing there, arms crossed, frowning a bit. He's clearly unhappy about everything Nirrti has just said, and he has his own words to say.
...also Takumi's words over the weekend have convinced him to wear a slightly better-fitting kimono, though it is still clearly a woman's kimono and just a bit too long for him.]
All magic has a price. The reason reviving people from the dead is a taboo isn't because it's impossible to do. It's because the magic is far, far too costly. Similarly, changing the past can be very expensive.
She is being careless with her magic, and it is going to upset the delicate balance that all life across all worlds exists in. Make no mistake, the cost for any wish will be paid. The universe is experienced in balancing itself out. But every act of good fortune must have an equal act of misfortune to go along with it, and any wish she grants you will be one you will come to regret.
So don't do it. Don't let her tempt you. Simply killing a person won't be the right price to balance out any wish you have, and you will drown in the cost of your wish.

In the afternoon after he's done with his newfound hobby of calisthenics, he's looking around upstairs at the new rooms. The rec room has a whole lot to look at, but he spends a few minutes staring at the gym equipment before wandering over to the games. He doesn't play anything, but he does engage in a staring contest with Mortal Kombat X. ]
...just how many of these did they make?

So he puts his focus elsewhere, into heading into the second floor library, seeing all the books... except when he peruses one and just collapses on the spot. Whoops. That was a mistake.
Later on, once he's gathered his bearings from that, he heads over to the sitting room; while he doesn't mind if people hate him, and honestly? He even expects it, but he'll be here with a sign in his usual neat calligraphy: ]
If there's anything you wish to ask of me about anything, I'm willing to answer honestly. Although there might be things I cannot answer, if I don't know about them, but I will be honest.
[ He was inspired, apparently, by the others. ]

MEET THE NEW FURNITURE
He starts the day in the downstairs library, still clad in a full formal kimono in blacks and reds and whites... except his haori, which is distinctly feminine with its sakura pattern. He has on a pair of tall single-toothed geta that make a pleasant clack, clack as he walks, and somehow he can balance on them? Shadow has some odd skills ok. He's collected every copy he can find of The Monkey's Paw, including in short story collections. He flips through them and marks the story with a bookmark. He stops to fan himself occasionally.]
[By mid-day he's made his way up to the second floor, where he is exploring the new rooms! A NEW LIBRARY!!! Nice. But these books are... different. The rec room seems interesting, but as he passes by the sauna, he lets out a groan] A sauna? In the summer? Really? [.... is he wearing less clothes than this morning...?]
[Then, it's afternoon, and Shadow has lost all his clothes except the haori, which he wears like a robe, and the geta. The remainder of his clothes are in a pile in the sitting room, and the 'hog himself is sitting on the couch, panting and fanning himself] These clothes are so hot. How the hell do humans wear this garbage all day long?!

Hey Akira,
Just in case an email can get out... Fingers crossed, right?! I'm okay, if you've noticed I'm missing. If not, surprise, I'm missing! But I'm fine. And Ryuji and you're with me, though it's you from before you even met me. I'm trying to be a good senpai, though.
And Ryuji remembers something different too.
But none of that is as important-- there are smart people here, but I'm not used to being the most senior Phantom Thief. Any words of advice??? Or, um, maybe a rescue team? I think it's gonna get so much dicier pretty soon.
Anyway, hopefully we'll talk soon.
~Ann

Hey! Hey! Wanna help some aspiring models out?
[how do you say no to that sweet smile?

Slight investigation
First he can be found in the garden, sitting cross legged with the flower book he checked out last week, taking notes.
Later one might find a hand written sign posted on the fence: "Berries are poison, Do Not Eat!!!! with a cartoon-y skull and crossbones.
In the afternoon he can be found in the rec room playing a fighting game. A hand sized two headed turtle statue sitting beside him]
So, am I going to win?
"No." "Yes"
[Each head answers differently and Takumi whines at said answer like it means something. And of course he loses]
Eh... was that a self fulfilling prophecy or something??!

Morning.
[ What the fuck kind of greeting is that, Akira? But, anyway, it's onto the second-floor library later in the day. He hasn't had a chance to learn what happens when you read the books around here.
He's learning by following in Syaoran's footsteps.
This is how he can be found either dropping to the floor, suddenly, or already knocked out.
Much later in the day, he's out on the balcony, sitting on the stone railing. He's deep in thought, sipping at some soda. ]

Hm... I wonder how these things are making people faint like that... Maybe there's a powder of some sort?
[He pulls out a book and starts flipping to a random page in it as he mutters to himself... Before abruptly vanishing into the book for a moment!
Five seconds later, he is returned to reality. There's a bunch of tiny dents in the casing on his body, but he's more shaken than harmed as he pats himself to find out.]
Okay. I'm not actually dead. The book just- wait, did I actually die?!
[He glances around and...] No, I can't be dead. That's stupid... Never touching that again.
[For the record, he went into chapter four of Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde... You can guess where this is going.]

Now, he's finally going to experiment for himself. Anyone looking in a farther aisle of the 2nd floor library (there might have been what seemed like a loud musical note or a surprised yelp beforehand) will find him flopped on the floor in a bit of a daze staring wonderingly at a book in his hands. There are a bunch of otamatones around him like an extremely cursed summoning circle and he's just landed on one, apparently.
Alternatively, they can find Anon with his hands and pretty much his face pressed up against the crystal ball of Fragments, looking extremely focused on following the little Fragments but also occasionally zooming to a different side like he's flipping channels on a TV. He probably doesn't notice the approach either way!
He can also occasionally be found in the rec room, apparently having worked out one of the game machines and... probably keysmashing his way right through a certain game about a puffy pink ball that eats other characters--]
Hahaha, it's almost like they made a game just for me! It's a lot harder to do this on a screen. Hey, do you think there are video games in the library, too?

WEEKLY EVENT - BELLS TOLLING FOR THEE
When he speaks, his voice is actually quite...jovial?]
...Welcome. I am Namtar!
I have prepared a riddle for you, if you would truly claim you seek the truth! Wahahaha!
[With a flourish from his cloak, a table appears in front of him, with 7 hand bells on it, and clears his throat.]
Ahem! Now then! I have to tell you the riddle officially, of course.
"
Danger stands before you, yet if you would gain the truth, go forth.
Two of them will help you find the halves of what you seek.
One among the seven will ring loud and true, and the halves will sing with them,
Another will ring dully, but bring a bright shine to the halves.
Two of them, instead, curse you with diseases like Ishtar,
Three of them will take away, permanently, a part of you.
Yet, they must be rung, or the truth will never be found.
I am not a callous demon, nor a benevolent god - thus I will grant you these four clues, so that I will not have to clean up after you.
So, the First: Though they all look the same, those that are at the end are different from each other.
Though to get through this unscathed, you should ring neither.
Now, the Second: Though their exteriors hide their tones, the tones that disable loves to sit at disease's sides.
Hear, the third: Though they look the same, the light reveals their differences.
Those that are dull and those that have been polished to a mirror shine's tones will never help you find the truth.
Finally, the fourth: The tones that take will never sit together, as their tones clash together and bring only death in it's wake.
To make this fair to the bells, and to I, their shepard, I ask that only 3 of your number ring a bell.
If you fail to ring either past three, I will strike down one of the ringers, and inflict a disease worse than the ones contained in two of the bells, in return for giving you the halves.
Of course, if you fail, you have the right to turn down my final offer, and let the truth fade into darkness.'
[He'd sounded solemn through it all...but then after that, he gleefully claps his hands and rubs them together, like a man about to relish someone making a fool of themselves in front of him.]
Now! You may inspect the bells, though touching them or picking them up isn't permitted unless you are about to ring them! Indeed, once you touch a bell, you have to ring it!
As the riddle says, if you fail to guess correctly three times in a row, I can give you what you seek - but I'll have to curse one of the ringers with a disease worst than the rest!
Eh? Which one? Hahahaha! We'll have to find out when that happens! After all, I have no high hopes for any of you...especially the man holding that cane there!
[After saying that, he smirks...and then just takes a step back, grinning devilishly.
Hm...]

THURSDAY

He spends literally all day in the second-floor library working at the same computer as on Tuesday. His goggles are hooked up to it again, and throughout the day more and more empty coffee cups are piling up. Busy hands are happy hands!]
Ngh, man... how did people do this long hand without Digimon back in the day-! What a hassle.

The karaoke machine.
He's never actually used it before, but eventually he winds up picking a song and singing it. His voice doesn't sound half bad, actually. Some of the lyrics are kind of interesting too, and Syaoran sounds surprisingly good, too.
Although after he's finished with his song, he might actually notice someone else watching, looking surprised. ]
Ah... did you want to have a go?

[Later in the day, she and Byers can be found in the Sitting Room. The pigeon stretches his wings by fluttering from place to place while Joey works out something or other on sheets of paper, making sketches and doodles in what may or may not be glittery gel pen. Occasionally, the bird flutters over on top of her work to demand a bit of bread.]

Not long after that, he does poke his head into the supply closet, just out of curiosity. ]
You know... I can't help feeling even more suspicious of normal things, these days...
[ That's to whoever's there to possibly judge him? Or just ask what the hell he's up to. It's around lunch, he can be seen in the kitchen. He's contacted Syaoran, in particular, because of what they talked about! Time to learn some things!!
Later, he's in the Sauna. He's here to relax, though... ummmm... He might spend too long in here? That's why, later on, he can be seen lying on the floor, outside of the sauna. Is... is he okay...?
Then, that evening, he's back in the kitchen, looking a little less enthusiastic. Such a busy day has him wiped, so he's looking to be considering a small, simple meal. ]

Bookventures!
Well, there's no need for dramatic introductions, but we should as always, pay attention.
[Once everyone's ready, he inserts the coin]
