Finally, the whole truth of this affair had come out.

The Witch they had known as Yuuko was actually Nirrti, the Witch of Misfortune.
And Watanuki was actually the real Witch of Dimensions, as the two of them fought over the power that title brought, as well as the name and identity of a long dead woman...🗈

Though things had finally changed, perhaps it wouldn't be for the better. Nirrti herself seemed much different than how she was before, and Watanuki was the one who had brought all of them here...with that in mind, it was hard to tell how their future would shake out...

However, it wasn't all bad. A few more places were open to them, the second floor becoming a much more inviting place to be, and there was still everything they had gotten used to before. And now, they all knew that Nirrti's promises were nothing but empty air...

...or, perhaps, now they would merely change.

Yep. They decided to hold a whole big worldwide tournament to decide the next God, but a lot of the fighters are just human kids. I never really got that part.

To actually become one themselves, not just a vessel?

Actually, they're fighters for the Celestials who sponsor them -- of course a human themselves can't become God. There's no way that'd be allowed!

[Though given the current God's habits, who even knows what he'd try.]

Well, I wouldn't think so either, but there's a lot I don't know about your world.

She momentarily considers bringing up the time she was possessed by a goddess while they're on this tangent, but given what this conversation stemmed from, this probably really isn't the time for that. ]

...Anyway, I'm just saying that what we saw was an understandable reaction for a human girl to have.

Haha, it's not unusual for humans to get gifts from Celestials, and sometimes God? It depends.

[He's definitely just carelessly tossing around terminology. People can keep up if they really want to!

It is true, though, that there's a fair amount of hostility for the divine in their little group. Can't be helped.]

I've spent a lot of time with them.

I think the Foundation's the first time I spent much time with them at all. Why did you like humans so much?

[ "Like" is a strong word, and not necessarily an accurate one, but she won't contradict it out loud. ]

They're interesting. They're so intent on fighting against the beasts they see in the world while refusing to acknowledge the ones inside them.

I think you just described the whole Foundation in one fell swoop! Well, and a lot of the humans from back home, too. It's almost impressive how some things are the same no matter where you go.
