If you look up, you can just make out the shimmering colors off of the barrier - looking almost like the shine off of a soap bubble.

...Still, the sight of the yellow flowers waving in the wind....such a cheery sight fills you with determination for what's to come.

I know enough to know that you don't want to remember everything.

But that thing, it deleted your memories. And I believe it was for a specific reason. If it just wanted you to suffer, then it would have let you remember everything that had happened. But it didn't. It erased everything.

For a being who wants others to suffer, it would only erase memories for one reason: something that happened was too dangerous for all of you to remember.

Of course it couldn't be something as convenient as our enemy having a limit on how much it'll do to us.

Because she isn't fond of memory loss of any kind.

Just because Red says that 'you don't want to remember everything' doesn't mean that Himeko agrees with that sentiment, enough for her to click her tongue in annoyance.]

Machinations behind the curtain?

Exactly.

Like Ren said, it's like back at camp: I only ever erased people's memories when I had to, to preserve the secrecy of the mission. And while this thing has different motivations than I did back at camp, the reasons for our actions can be boiled down to the same general idea: someone saw something that could compromise the mission, so erasing everything is the safest move to keep someone from breaking containment.

How strange we keep ending up in this situation.

...That is certainly how it felt, yes. That still leaves us with little idea on where to go from here, however.

But why? If this...thing is supposed to be cruel enough to eat our Fragment, then why do something like protect our sanity? Unless it's dangerous for it?

My guess is that it wasn't to protect your sanity. Rather, it was to protect its own existence.

Something that happened must be a clue as to how to defeat this thing. There is no other reason why it would erase everyone's memories.

So we were on the right track, but we messed up somewhere along the way. However, even that attempt was close enough for it to be afraid of us.

...Hmph. So in the end, we did do something right.

It's a pity we can't remember what it was in the first place.

That's what we thought. We must have found out something important during that FIGHT.

So that must mean we were close to figuring out how to defeat it which it obviously didn't want us knowing. [ that would definitely be explain the memories being erased ]

I believe so, yes. Which is why we need to recover those memories and study them, to figure out what went right for that moment.
