WEEK 1

You've found a safe haven from the wind and the snow - yet, perhaps you're not quite out of danger yet. The Resort Staff are odd, but seem harmless - jumping to any whim you might have, if it doesn't make them oddly lock up.

The weather all week is perfect - the perfect temp and snow for plenty of skiing. The firepit in the courtyard is always lit too, with ingredients for smores and hot chocolate always available in the lobby. Though...in the halls, a strange bunch of songs keep playing from the hotel's sound system. Is whoever runs this place a weird cover song enthusiast?

So far, everything seems fine....but there's a weird sense of unease lingering over the Resort as everyone wakes up Monday Morning. Maybe that has something to do with that strange memory that popped in your head when you woke up? Or maybe it's that all of you woke up in the middle of a snowstorm, with no memory of how you got there?

In the end...even though everything should be fine, why does it feel like this is only the prelude to a nightmare...?

That doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't they just say 'kill', then? Nothing's stopped them every other time.

[It's definitely almost petulant, but not in a way that says 'denial'. More like 'this sure is happening now'.]

There's a lot of different ways to mean killing, people just choose whatever sounds best.

That's assuming the staff are people. I'm starting to wonder about that.

[There's a little huff, because yeah, now she definitely sounds like she's complaining, but it's still a valid concern?! Especially given all the things they're running into during this announcement. Wow.]

What I'm saying is, disappearing might be something else we have to deal with.

Of course they don't-- I mean, there are different types of disappearance!

[She could go into the details, but she really doesn't feel like getting into the details.]

This note didn't look like it came from the staff, anyway, did it? If it's the same one I saw.

Well, they found it lying around in the restaurant. With the level of technology they have here, why would they need to leave notes? And like I said, the wording they're using doesn't match.

It seemed more like a warning.

You think it was dropped by another guest?

I think we should consider that. You'd have to ask the person who found the note for more details, but... if there's anyone or anything here that can help us, then I don't want to overlook them.

[Okay, so maybe some of it is just sheer stubborn looking for a bright side to the thing.]

In that case, either they were naive, or scared of being blunt.

We might have to be careful about what we say around here.

... I know that having it be an euphemism is the easiest explanation, but still.

[She shakes her head and doesn't pursue it for the moment. They can argue about the thing when they have more information, obviously. Other than that...]

I think no matter what, we're being monitored. But it's... hard to tell what we can say, with the staff the way they are.

[Like, probably Kohaku's over in the background stabbing people or something?? It's pretty chaotic around here right now.]

Have you seen any cameras?

[For whatever reason, he figures this kid is one of the more reasonable ones, and might have noticed.]

[At the very least, she's one of the ones who knows enough tech to have noticed, and it's something she's been watching out for ever since, well. Ever since the staff have started popping up unannounced in the middle of conversations and whatnot.]

I haven't. Not any that I recognize, or any other kind of surveillance, but... they might have technology we've never seen before. They can definitely hear us.

[Snake gives his a look over.]

You think they’re monitoring what we do on here?

I'd be surprised if they weren't. It's the easiest way to keep track of us that isn't security cameras.

We have to be careful of what we do on them, then.

[He hopes that she’ll take that as an instruction.]

I’ll see if I can find any hidden cameras while I’m here, too.

[Whoops, but with backdated flavor. Look, she's from an era where kids messing with electronics is as natural as breathing.]

They're pretty limited machines right now.

[But not if they poke them a little. Maybe.]

Are you good at finding hidden cameras?

[He cocks his head slightly.]

[He doesn't say it with any particular pride, though.]

Oh. Come to think of it... what is your job?

[It doesn't occur to her, usually, to be too inquisitive about someone's job because... she doesn't deal with a lot of adults on a regular basis apart from her brother.]

[Give her a moment to think that over.]

You... work for the government? But this isn't one of your missions, is it?

No. They'd at least tell me if it was.

[The Colonel could be a bastard at times, and was one to withold details, but Snake believes that he'd at least be told what he's supposed to do here.]

I can't link up with any network at all, with my duel disk or anything else, apart from the one in here. I think other people are running into the same thing.

[Which isn't to say she's doubting that he wasn't contacted, just that they're in the mountains and most probably, even if Snake's people wanted to talk to him -- it would be hard to impossible.]

[She taps a little at her wrist. There's a floral-framed screen there, small and sleek, and a tinny AI voice that responds: Hello, Blue Angel. The way it usually does when she disturbs it. There's a number of functions and buttons, but it's of a fairly simple design.]

It's used mostly for dueling, but it has pretty good network capabilities, since it has to connect to Link VRAINS, too. That's the virtual reality I came from.
