WEEK 6

You wake up to the sound of silence in the halls, the lights still dimmed after what happened on the weekend. The Staff is still soundly gone, including The Chef - and items aren't regenerating out of thin air for all of you anymore. There's still enough food for everyone who's left, but you'll have to make it yourself, now that The Chef is out of commission. No movies play, the Arcade is dead, and all of the animals from the cafe have vanished, beyond the pets you brought or got during the game.

More than that, however, is that The dead no longer seem to be around from a living perspective. While the tablets went down as soon as The Lady did, they seem to not even be able to pick up or interact with the rest of you. Are they still here?

However, there's another major change - as you come down into the lobby, you'll see that The Resort has landed in an area - the ocean is clearly visible, as it rests close to a beach nearby. More than that, however - you can actually go outside. And it seems like the resort won't pull you back in.

You could, conceivably, just walk out the door, and into freedom. But...Should you?

[There is a duck.

It is duck sized. It is duck shaped.

It is going quack. It is also floating in mid-air making tapping sounds against the wall with its beak. For those who know morse code, there seems to be a pattern:

[She assumes there’s some ghost shenanigans going on, though this is not rats. Unless 34 is a floating duck in reality. You never know.]

[It sure is a floating fowl, and it definitely is not rats. The duck quacks at her because it is a duck, as you can see before the beak of the duck is tapped against the wall, gently with:

[The duck just seems to tap out a response with its beak:

I really can’t tell if I’m talking to a person or a duck...

[But fine. She’s going to... look between the duck and the direction of the kitchen and then... reach out to attempt to move the duck.

Seems safer to bring duck to bread than risk duck vanishing.]

[It is a mystery.

At the very least, the duck is easy to grab? It's a duck, I don't know what you're expecting here. But it seems to be a rather calm duck and will just quack at her in a way that can probably be interpreted as feed me!

There's no problems here.]

[Look, the duck could be trapped floating in that specific square inch of the Resort?? You never know what kind of space-time shenanigans are going to come up next in here. But it’s good that it’s calm because she is a city girl who would have no idea what to do if the duck went quackers.

Time to go the kitchen and get some bread, possible-Inabird.]

Where did you come from, anyway...? I thought most of the animals were gone already. You’re not the raccoon’s friend, are you?

[She’ll just keep talking to a duck while feeding it bread crumbs or whatever it’s fine.]

[It...quacks? And is no longer floating and is just on the ground, doing what a duck does and pecks at the bread, carefree.]

Well, she’s just going to settle on the ground next to the duck and see if behavior changes after bread.]

[After it finishes eating the duck seems to waddle a bit aimlessly before it seems to suddenly stop and suddenly goes back up into the air like the floating duck it is and moves to the closest wall to tap out with the beak:

I’m pretty impressed that the duck can communicate that.

[Like, how does the duck know how to ask for bread with Morse code. Qué.]

Well, now that it’s fed, hopefully it’ll be less distracted?

[Nobody knows. Maybe the duck doesn't even know. Nevertheless, the movements of the duck's beak onto the wall are a little awkward but she eventually gets:

It’s definitely at least a multiplanar duck, if it can interact with you guys. I’m not sure how I feel about being less good at this Resort stuff than a bird.

[She shakes her head. That’s probably not the important part here.]

So... was there something you needed?

[The duck seems to ruffle its feathers for a second and seems to almost want to jump off, but it just.

Quacks.

Several times.

Before it finally quiets down and the beak taps against the wall:

[She just stares as the duck shifts around restlessly. Now, she doesn't speak duck, but the ruffled feathers...?]

... Is the duck mad at me?

[All she did was call it a bird, is this another case of multiplanar entity appearing as mundane animals. Is there anything normal in this Resort. Does the toilet lead to someone's magic workshop. Anyway.]

Anyway, um, whose ability? Is it one of us?

[The living, that is.]

[It definitely continues to squirm a little bit in the air before more taps are drawn from it:

A pause, and then one more:

[Just in case, she's going to try to ply it with more bread crumbs. Luckily, there seems to be a decent supply of bread on hand, and one single duck can be fed fairly easily. Hopefully it doesn't make like Duke Oreo Pinkerton the 25th and grow into an eldritch monstrosity at some point.

So... Should I be getting someone for you?

[Well, the duck seems to jump from the place that it was floating from and just eats the bread.

And then it floats once again and it seems to ruffle its feathers. Before another message gets tapped out:

[She tilts her head as she listens to the message and her brows draw down in a confused frown. She's still pretty sure it's Inaba... but isn't Inaba usually more straightforward than this?]

I'm not sure... Is there something you want me to do, then?

[The duck squirms a bit but the message manages to get sent out:

[If their situation weren't so dire she'd kind of laugh that they're being thwarted by duck shenanigans. Then again, everything they've been thwarted by so far is ridiculous when it isn't straight up terrible.

Aoi shakes her head to herself briefly.]

Well... Can I get a name, at least? We'll see what we can work out on our end until we figure out this communication thing a little better?

[The duck jumps down once again to shake its feathers and it seems to tap out the start of:

And then it stops all of a sudden before it starts up again:

[... She crouches down a little to help corral the duck, and just shakes her head briefly.]

If I keep feeding you, you're going to get too heavy to even carry around. Sorry.

[Still not sure how much the duck can understand her but whatever.

It probably understands that she's in its way figuratively and literally right now. She looks up at the empty space where the ghost presumably is.]

It's good to have that confirmed, but I meant the person you want to test.
