WEEK 6

You wake up to the sound of silence in the halls, the lights still dimmed after what happened on the weekend. The Staff is still soundly gone, including The Chef - and items aren't regenerating out of thin air for all of you anymore. There's still enough food for everyone who's left, but you'll have to make it yourself, now that The Chef is out of commission. No movies play, the Arcade is dead, and all of the animals from the cafe have vanished, beyond the pets you brought or got during the game.

More than that, however, is that The dead no longer seem to be around from a living perspective. While the tablets went down as soon as The Lady did, they seem to not even be able to pick up or interact with the rest of you. Are they still here?

However, there's another major change - as you come down into the lobby, you'll see that The Resort has landed in an area - the ocean is clearly visible, as it rests close to a beach nearby. More than that, however - you can actually go outside. And it seems like the resort won't pull you back in.

You could, conceivably, just walk out the door, and into freedom. But...Should you?

[Well, the duck seems to jump from the place that it was floating from and just eats the bread.

And then it floats once again and it seems to ruffle its feathers. Before another message gets tapped out:

[She tilts her head as she listens to the message and her brows draw down in a confused frown. She's still pretty sure it's Inaba... but isn't Inaba usually more straightforward than this?]

I'm not sure... Is there something you want me to do, then?

[The duck squirms a bit but the message manages to get sent out:

[If their situation weren't so dire she'd kind of laugh that they're being thwarted by duck shenanigans. Then again, everything they've been thwarted by so far is ridiculous when it isn't straight up terrible.

Aoi shakes her head to herself briefly.]

Well... Can I get a name, at least? We'll see what we can work out on our end until we figure out this communication thing a little better?

[The duck jumps down once again to shake its feathers and it seems to tap out the start of:

And then it stops all of a sudden before it starts up again:

[... She crouches down a little to help corral the duck, and just shakes her head briefly.]

If I keep feeding you, you're going to get too heavy to even carry around. Sorry.

[Still not sure how much the duck can understand her but whatever.

It probably understands that she's in its way figuratively and literally right now. She looks up at the empty space where the ghost presumably is.]

It's good to have that confirmed, but I meant the person you want to test.

[The duck just quacks at her, and then manages to tap out:

Oh. Yes, that makes sense, all things considered.

[She's starting to get used to being quacked at while she's thinking.]

We can probably test it with the others once the duck has a break. [not that anyone else knows Morse that she knows of, but maybe they can think of a better way to get the duck to cooperate...?] In the meantime, um, are you guys taking care of the duck?

[Or do the living now have a pet duck. Improtant questions.]

[ Roxas walks in here fifteen minutes late with starbucks...hearing her talk to a duck? Well... there are animals in this place. ]

Which means that the floating duck is going to jump and waddle over to him. New human, who this?]

Oh... Roxas-kun, hello.

[Sometimes you just gotta talk to animals even if they aren't dressed in a sailor suit.

She turns back to the duck for a moment.]

I guess we can keep the duck fed for now. And... I should probably keep Cinque from eating it. [considering what almost happened to Ryoga...? anyways back to Roxas:] --Inaba-san is using the duck to communicate with us in Morse code.

[ It's...so cute?!

Roxas will squat down a bit so he can get more on the duck's level, after giving Aoi a small wave. ]

[ ...he reaches out his hand to in front of the duck. ]

She likes to eat ducks? And...what's Morse Code?

[It's a duck, of course it's (objectively) cute.

And it just quacks at Roxas, looking vaguely interested but otherwise does nothing else, seemingly chill and satisfied for the time being.]

[ And there' s a duck. hmm ]

It's feathers remind me of Roxy's hair.

[Speak of the devil and she'll waltz in at the tantalizing(?) smell of uncooked duck.

Aoi looks briefly startled but then the corner of her mouth turns up, because like... dude may not have a full duckbutt going, but.]

... I guess I can kind of see the resemblance. By the way, I'll go ahead and say this now, but this is Inaba-san's duck, okay? It's not for dinner.

[Or any other meal, but anyway.]

We've been using Morse code to talk to the ghosts, since it's a code language that doesn't need talking, just tapping. The duck is apparently going to help us with that?

[ Jaw's theme playing, except with every step of Cinque coming it gets louder until she speaks. ]

...It really looks that much like me?

[ Let's see about trying to pet the duck now. ]

How do you even know which tapping means what?

Roxas is now its new best friend.]

[So if you're petting a semi-duckbutt while the duckbutt is petting a duck butt then who's the butt of the joke and who should be ducking? ☆

Anyway, what she would give for a camera right now?? Unrelatedly, Aoi's pretty sure Cinque would eat almost anything you put in front of her and the rest of them aren't going to be far behind if they run out of food, so we're laying down some dining ground rules for now. She's going to crouch and contemplate ducks.]

Just in case, Cinque. Anyway, Morse code is just patterns of sounds. So like... Roxas, your name would be... [.-. --- -..- .- ...] --like that.

[ Roxas can't help but think it's so cute that he's not planning on stopping the soft pets anytime soon. ]

[ Though at that, the blond looks up at Cinque- hey look if you're going to touch his bangs it is probably impossible to not interrupt his duck time and he ends up flailing a little in surprise and falling on his bum. ]

...What about 'you're a butthead'? What would that sound like?

[ Look they're going to meet the Outsider (maybe?) sometime and he kind of is thinking about messing with him when things are all clear. ]

[Well, at least the duck is enjoying itself, and Roxas seems to know how to handle it, which likely makes one of them. Maybe one and a half, considering Cinque's fondness for chicken-adjacent creatures (Chocobo, that is).

The faint smile from earlier gets a little more amused when Roxas falls on his butt (but not on his butthead, this time).]

Why is that the first thing you want to learn? [she was the one who offered his name, so it doesn't count; anyway] All right, then. Try...

[ Roxas takes the hand carefully, huffing as he does so not realizing how silly his words just sounded just then, and then Aoi is tapping on his head, rude! ]

[ Then he's flailing and grab onto both of their sleeves as he falling over from the surprise again. Why is his life like this...?! ]

[ Giggling and not expecting the grabbing So is caught off balance. Pile up on Roxas? Cause that's what is going to happen. ]
