WEEK 4 MINGLE

WEEK 4

The weekend that just passed was....frankly, a lot. Yet despite all odds, you somehow pulled out a win from the jaws of utter defeat. As you wake up feeling tired but happy, the speakers crackle to life with the voice of The Lady.

"Attention, Guests. This week, The game is temporarily suspended. This week, there will be no mafia kill. Take a break for your hard work."

And...indeed, it seems like this is a peace week. The Staff, after the disappearance of The Captain, are acting worse than they did last week - not only is there the blankness and the stuttering, but sometimes they even get orders wrong, with potentially hazardous results. Asking the Staff for things has become more dangerous and unreliable, but at least you meals are still good. Speaking of, The Chef has put a sign up on the door, reading "DO NOT TAKE KNIVES WITHOUT ASKING FIRST!! THAT MEANS YOU!!" written in big, angry letters. The resort also seems to be gearing up for Christmas - there are lights and trees scattered around the place, as well as mistletoe for couples to get their public displays of affection on. There's also some other holiday decorations around, for Kwanzaa and....something else you definitely have never seen before. The thing....wriggles, and you don't want to be around it for long.

The weather is still nothing, except for the courtyard, which is still pleasantly snowy. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Are you getting closer to the truth of this place, maybe? It's hard to say.

[He's not quite at the top of his game right now, but he's been in enough dangerous situations by now to recognize something coming at his face, so he reflexively steps to the side and draws his tachi from its scabbard in one smooth motion, sending splinters of wood flying as he knocks the chair away. From the way he ends up breathing heavily as he kneels down on the ground, it's pretty clear the effort's winded him, although he looks up with a frail smile when she approaches.]

I-it's fine. Don't worry about it. I should've been paying more attention to where I was walking.

[An expression of concern appears on her face as she makes her way over to Rean. The chair disappears. Does it repair itself after it's been broken? She probably should've tested that before flinging it around.]

Are you okay? [She wants to comment on his appearance right now, but...she feels like that might be a bit rude.] Uh, those were some very good reflexes. You weren't kidding when you said you were a skilled swordsman.

[He's still chilling there on the ground, although his breathing is calming down, at least.]

Y-yeah, I'm alright. Thanks. [There's a bit of sheepish laughter at the comment though.] I'm not sure if 'skilled' is the word I'd use, but I'd like to think I know my way around a sword at least a little bit by now.

[She places her hands on her hips, offering Rean a small smile.]

You're better than me, at least. That's worth something.

[Then again, they don't train the Merchant Navy to use swords...]

Show me what you can do when you're not fending off flying chairs.
relentlesslyonwards: (i have this. don't worry.)

You looked pretty impressive yourself when you were going at that dummy, though.

[He stands up smoothly enough after he's had enough time to rest, still holding his sword.]

But sure, I don't really mind. Were you thinking of anything specific though?

[A spar might be a little too much, but he's game for anything else.]

[She snorts, crossing her arms.] I'll admit I'm a little rusty though--I haven't really had a chance to practice fighting ever since I left training.

[Which was...Christ. Almost ten years ago. She'd consider herself more proficient with using weapons than any sort of hand-to-hand combat. She tilts her head to the side, raising her eyebrows and gesturing towards the dummy behind her.]

Maybe see how you do against that--how you approach an enemy. Try stabbing it in the arm or something.

I'd say it's a good thing that you haven't really felt the need to keep it up, but... then again, it's not just about being combat ready, huh.

[After all, there's a lot of reasons why someone might want to keep up their training, even if it's just for the sake of having another skill in their pocket. He follows her gesture with his eyes, looking over at the dummy and back at her, nodding at the suggestion.]

Alright, I'll see what I can do.

[There's a deep breath. He then moves into his usual stance, lowering his posture and facing the 'opponent' with his left shoulder as he grips the hilt firmly with both hands, letting the blade trail behind him. There's a slight step to the side before he dashes forward, swinging the blade horizontally in front of the dummy's chest area before following up with a swipe upwards, almost like it's intended to knock something away rather than injure. With a final flick to the side, he sheathes the blade, letting out a sharp exhale and sagging as he catches his breath.]
