WEEK 4

The weekend that just passed was....frankly, a lot. Yet despite all odds, you somehow pulled out a win from the jaws of utter defeat. As you wake up feeling tired but happy, the speakers crackle to life with the voice of The Lady.

"Attention, Guests. This week, The game is temporarily suspended. This week, there will be no mafia kill. Take a break for your hard work."

And...indeed, it seems like this is a peace week. The Staff, after the disappearance of The Captain, are acting worse than they did last week - not only is there the blankness and the stuttering, but sometimes they even get orders wrong, with potentially hazardous results. Asking the Staff for things has become more dangerous and unreliable, but at least you meals are still good. Speaking of, The Chef has put a sign up on the door, reading "DO NOT TAKE KNIVES WITHOUT ASKING FIRST!! THAT MEANS YOU!!" written in big, angry letters. The resort also seems to be gearing up for Christmas - there are lights and trees scattered around the place, as well as mistletoe for couples to get their public displays of affection on. There's also some other holiday decorations around, for Kwanzaa and....something else you definitely have never seen before. The thing....wriggles, and you don't want to be around it for long.

The weather is still nothing, except for the courtyard, which is still pleasantly snowy. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Are you getting closer to the truth of this place, maybe? It's hard to say.

[It sounds kind of...sad, really, to live in a place where they can't really go all out for the holidays. Not that he doesn't understand--"mining colony" doesn't sounds like the sort of place that would have a lot of time for leisure activities.]

I guess that makes sense. [Minato's never really been in a position to celebrate much either, but...]

I guess people like to celebrate whenever they get the chance. We've been doing that here too, sort of, right?

[With the sleepovers and the party games. It's not really the place for them, but they'll cling to anything to take their mind off of the bad.]

[She smiles a little.]

Guess so. Though I wish it wasn't under the circumstances we're in now.

[Thinking about the possibility of dying sort of puts a damper on celebrations. And, uh, just...dredging up traumatic memories, in general.]

Wish there was a way to party and get things done. Hell, I barely even let myself rest the last few weeks because I was so worried about everything.

[She rubs her face, sighing.]

[It sure does and he can't blame her at all, because this is all awful.]

... Ripley-san... You have to get some rest when you can too.

... Though I know that's easier said than done here.

[Ripley sighs again.]

I know, it's just...I feel guilty whenever I'm not working on something.

[A pause. She turns to look towards Minato, frowning.]

What do you do to distract yourself from...everything?

[... Well...]

I talk to people.

[That's what helps him the most. When he's feeling stressed, or guilty, or afraid...]

About anything... important or not. About the things they like and how they're feeling and what they've been up to that day. I guess... that helps ground me a little bit, you know?

It may not be that useful here, but... sometimes we have to take a little while to get our heads on straight before we can focus on being useful.

[Ripley falls quiet, listening to Minato speak. There's the fear that if she starts talking, she'll be asked about herself. And when she starts thinking or talking about herself, she'll start the whole damn thing over again.

She can do her best to avoid it, though. She has to.]

I was never really that good at conversation. [A snort.] But I'll give it a try, I guess.

Sometimes...I think it's just the act of doing something normal with someone else that helps, at least for me.

[He tilts his head at that, blinking blankly.]

What for? I don't think you have anything to thank me for.

You talked to me and gave me an idea. That's a reason to thank you.

[She crosses her arms.]

Anyways, I...I'm going to try and...do something to get my mind off of everything. Exercise. Whatever. Wanna come with me?

[Oh... that sounds nice, honestly. Getting their minds off of things with a jog or some sort of exercise sounds perfect too.]

Yeah, I'd like that a lot. Let's do it. [WHATEVER TYPE OF EXERCISE, he's ready!!]
