WEEK 4 MINGLE

WEEK 4

The weekend that just passed was....frankly, a lot. Yet despite all odds, you somehow pulled out a win from the jaws of utter defeat. As you wake up feeling tired but happy, the speakers crackle to life with the voice of The Lady.

"Attention, Guests. This week, The game is temporarily suspended. This week, there will be no mafia kill. Take a break for your hard work."

And...indeed, it seems like this is a peace week. The Staff, after the disappearance of The Captain, are acting worse than they did last week - not only is there the blankness and the stuttering, but sometimes they even get orders wrong, with potentially hazardous results. Asking the Staff for things has become more dangerous and unreliable, but at least you meals are still good. Speaking of, The Chef has put a sign up on the door, reading "DO NOT TAKE KNIVES WITHOUT ASKING FIRST!! THAT MEANS YOU!!" written in big, angry letters. The resort also seems to be gearing up for Christmas - there are lights and trees scattered around the place, as well as mistletoe for couples to get their public displays of affection on. There's also some other holiday decorations around, for Kwanzaa and....something else you definitely have never seen before. The thing....wriggles, and you don't want to be around it for long.

The weather is still nothing, except for the courtyard, which is still pleasantly snowy. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Are you getting closer to the truth of this place, maybe? It's hard to say.

I think we would all like that.

To start with... I don't know about anyone else, but I don't remember actually reading the dossier, so even now we don't really have any information beyond what we've discovered while here.

Unfortunately, the dossier was about as barebones as my presentation suggested -- just written down.

Going in, we knew that the Resort was some sort of anomalous location that moved from place to place and even disappeared completely for periods of time. Humans that came to the Resort had never been documented to return, nor had any lab animals. Drones and surveillance equipment are all nonfunctional once they entered the active zone.

I truly, truly had no idea this damn place was some sort of dimension-hopping organism -- if you were to read the current article on this SCP, the information I just gave you is literally all there is.

Yeah, it didn't exactly seem like The Outsider was good at... figuring things out.

Then, the next question would probably be... What can you tell us about the monsters?

I was being honest when I said I was angry that the sent a soldier to do a scientist's job.

There were only three. The Barghest is now gone, and I am unaware of what its goal was. The doppelganger seems to be a fairly benign being that inhabits the body of another and allows them to take the shape of others. Its goal is to stop the hurt -- that is, figure out and remove what is making the Resort sick. I still cannot reveal the identity of the Jorogumo, but it is an intelligent predator that just happens to include humans in its diet. Its goal is to hunt the Outsider -- and the Resort staff would allow it to eat whatever it catches in the meantime. But it also seems reasonable. Only the Barghest truly seemed malicious.

...Then, there are other things it can feed on?

Still, it seems like it might be hard to get The Outsider out while the Jorogumo is still hunting him.

...From what I heard, they normally just treated people from other dimensions like us as guests and didn't bother with them, though. It's kind of strange that the Jorogumo would be hunting us, wouldn't it?

[It all seems to come down to the Resort being sick, though...]

I am unsure, but it could probably eat just about anything. It doesn't seem to be a specialized hunter.

The Jorogumo isn't really hunting us as much as its also being forced to participate in the game. Getting fresh prey is just a bonus, I suspect.

Something about what the Outsider said struck me... something changed? But what?

Yeah, that's what's been bothering me, too. It seemed like he didn't notice anything beyond the Guests acting differently, and as far as he could tell there didn't seem to be any cause...

Still, something must have happened. I'm not sure how we're supposed to find out what, though.

Something happened, something before the Outsider hid in the body of the Resort.

We may be able to figure it out, but not until we get to the source of our current problem.
