Week 4, Friday
Another Thursday night comes, and everyone seems to know what that means. Even with the failure of last week, several people are out on patrol, trying to make sure no murders occur tonight. That motive had been tempting, after all, and keeping people in check when there's the promise of 'going home' on the line is difficult at best.
Moriarty, at least, seems intent on taking advantage of that motive. After slipping out of his room, he walks briskly towards the back yard. His intended target is out there, he knows it, and he wants to get this done quickly before anyone notices he's missing. The stipulation of 'don't get caught' has made this week's motive all the harder to obtain, and he has no intentions of letting anyone get the best of him.
However, Oda is not alone this week. Several people have decided to patrol with him, making for many witnesses to any possible crime. A fact that Moriarty sees instantly as soon as he steps outside.
For a moment, Oda and Moriarty's eyes meet. Oda frowns, because he can figure out exactly what Moriarty is doing out and about at this hour. But he can't say anything, not with the people around him. The goal is to avoid deaths, after all, and speaking up now will just result in Moriarty's death instead of his own. And since Oda won't attack with other people right there to get caught in a firefight and possibly die, he does nothing against this obvious threat.
Karen looks over the edge and sees Moriarty too. In turn, Moriarty smiles and waves up at the group, acting as if nothing bad had been about to happen. Karen waves in return, suspecting nothing. The exchange just makes Oda's frown deepen, but he still says nothing.
Then, once that pleasant exchange is made, Moriarty ducks back inside, heading back to his room before anyone can miss him.
The night passes with no deaths.

Okay so. YANKING, I guess.]
I ain't ever been a fuckin' lapdog for ANYBODY, you better remember that. [that's apparently his priority here, one golden eye boring into Moriarty and his myriad wrinkles and everything] Pretty sure you're a liability ALREADY but--
[Shaking him by his mustache goes here, it's kind of difficult to do but that's never stopped him. There's a niggling something that says something's off here but well. Nora is Nora.]
THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE.
no subject
So he'll flash step over there. ]
You're giving him what he wants, Nora.
[ Putting a hand on his back. ]

[There's a blink, and the steadily rising magic pressure (it's enough to feel a little like a pull now to those with some magical aptitude, chaotic and snarling the way it always is, a little deeper and darker than it's been since the last weekend) blinks too, falters briefly before it settles just a little bit.
Nora squints from where he's rounded on Vanitas, still with a death grip on Moriarty's poor facial hair. There are probably wisps of mustache floating around somewhere. He's vibrating with angry energy under the touch, seemingly somewhere between himself and elsewhere.]
What's wrong with dealing with this stupid fuckhead.
no subject
Moving his hand up to lightly poke Nora's neck. ]
He's not even fighting back. Besides, I don't really feel like standing in the way of Akira's gun again.
[ He'll let Nora draw his own conclusions from that. Moving to hook his hand on the collar of his shirt, prepared to yank him back if he absolutely has to. ]
no subject
The sound of the safety coming off a gun is distinct even in all this commotion. Akira stares at Nora over it, but it's not with the fierce protective anger or cold calculation that's been there before.
No.
His eyes are just empty.]
He's not yours to deal with.
no subject
Yes, this is the outcome of his decision that he was dreading the most, and yet -
He'd wanted to hope, just a little. Yet, hadn't he learned that hope crushes people under their heel?
Still hanging by the grip nora has on his mustache, he closes his eyes and braces himself before opening them again, keeping his gaze on Akira the entire time.]
no subject
It cracks, just for a second, something anguished peeking through before Akira shuts it down again.]
You could have just told me you don't want me anymore.
no subject
He opens his mouth through his now lopsided mustache, as if to say something - before looking up into that pain before snapping it closed.
...Finally, he manages to gather his voice.]
...Akira, that....that was never my intention.
[It sounds pitiful and weak, even to his ears. The last, lame excuse of someone who's been caught and chained.]
no subject
What else am I supposed to think, James?!
[That pain slips into his voice, which wavers. He tries to rein it back in, bring back the emptiness. He fails.]
Did you think I didn't realize you were planning to kill someone?! Of course I knew! I'm your student!
I could have found you.....and known that I just...let it happen...
no subject
[Still, he....knows when he's made a mistake, and this may just well be one of the biggest he's ever made.]
...I'm sorry. I - failed you, as a teacher, by considering this. I know that may not be enough, but...it is all I can say, in the face of this mistake of mine.
[Though...it's clear that he's expecting anger. Expecting rage, expecting a break - expecting to lose something, yet again, as he always has.
And he's just bracing himself for the fall, so it won't hurt as much.]
no subject
Don't get rid of me, don't go away, please please please, you don't even have to be sorry just please still want me-
no subject
with that clinging, there's nothing else he can do - but just hold onto the crying boy, placing a hand on his back.]
Of course, I still want you. I will not abandon you, Akira - Not now. And if fate allows, not ever.
no subject
He manages to find breath and coherence again after a minute.]
I stopped getting close. So many of my Confidants died, so I stopped. But there was Goro. And now there's you. And I'm so scared.
[A couple of other people here are creeping past the self imposed rank limits he'd set, too.]
no subject
[ He tried. Letting go of Nora to move between Akira and the two idiots on the ground. ]
We keep ending up like this.
[ He'll point a thumb behind him. ]
That one is mine.
[ He means Nora ]
no subject
[The worst part is that there isn't even any venom to the words. They're just a statement.]
no subject
Do I need to leash you, too?
[ Searching his eyes for a moment. How u doin, Akira ]
no subject
There's still nothing in the eyes Vanitas is searching, which probably means he's doing Really Bad.]
Sorry, Van, I'm just not ready to introduce that level of kink to our relationship.
no subject
There's a beat as he moves his hand to tap his cheek next. ]
Don't break.
[ Then he'll move away to grab Nora. Time to get out of here unless you want apprentice teacher feelings on you, Nora. ]
no subject
He doesn't trust the guy whatsoever, which is funny because he probably keeps company with even more dubious or at least more murderous people, but the look in Akira's eye is uncanny and also -- also yeah, he's not here for getting apprentice teacher feelings all over the place.
All the same, it takes a moment to budge him. He looks quickly between Akira and Vanitas and frowns ferociously (it's an expression he's worn often enough dealing with Vanitas, honestly) before letting himself be moved.]
... Hmph. Next time this damn old man does stupid shit I ain't going to let it go, mark my words--
[He's busy giving both Moriarty and Akira the evil eye as he's dragged away.......]
