Week 4, Friday
Another Thursday night comes, and everyone seems to know what that means. Even with the failure of last week, several people are out on patrol, trying to make sure no murders occur tonight. That motive had been tempting, after all, and keeping people in check when there's the promise of 'going home' on the line is difficult at best.
Moriarty, at least, seems intent on taking advantage of that motive. After slipping out of his room, he walks briskly towards the back yard. His intended target is out there, he knows it, and he wants to get this done quickly before anyone notices he's missing. The stipulation of 'don't get caught' has made this week's motive all the harder to obtain, and he has no intentions of letting anyone get the best of him.
However, Oda is not alone this week. Several people have decided to patrol with him, making for many witnesses to any possible crime. A fact that Moriarty sees instantly as soon as he steps outside.
For a moment, Oda and Moriarty's eyes meet. Oda frowns, because he can figure out exactly what Moriarty is doing out and about at this hour. But he can't say anything, not with the people around him. The goal is to avoid deaths, after all, and speaking up now will just result in Moriarty's death instead of his own. And since Oda won't attack with other people right there to get caught in a firefight and possibly die, he does nothing against this obvious threat.
Karen looks over the edge and sees Moriarty too. In turn, Moriarty smiles and waves up at the group, acting as if nothing bad had been about to happen. Karen waves in return, suspecting nothing. The exchange just makes Oda's frown deepen, but he still says nothing.
Then, once that pleasant exchange is made, Moriarty ducks back inside, heading back to his room before anyone can miss him.
The night passes with no deaths.

Yes, this is the outcome of his decision that he was dreading the most, and yet -
He'd wanted to hope, just a little. Yet, hadn't he learned that hope crushes people under their heel?
Still hanging by the grip nora has on his mustache, he closes his eyes and braces himself before opening them again, keeping his gaze on Akira the entire time.]

It cracks, just for a second, something anguished peeking through before Akira shuts it down again.]
You could have just told me you don't want me anymore.
no subject
He opens his mouth through his now lopsided mustache, as if to say something - before looking up into that pain before snapping it closed.
...Finally, he manages to gather his voice.]
...Akira, that....that was never my intention.
[It sounds pitiful and weak, even to his ears. The last, lame excuse of someone who's been caught and chained.]
no subject
What else am I supposed to think, James?!
[That pain slips into his voice, which wavers. He tries to rein it back in, bring back the emptiness. He fails.]
Did you think I didn't realize you were planning to kill someone?! Of course I knew! I'm your student!
I could have found you.....and known that I just...let it happen...
no subject
[Still, he....knows when he's made a mistake, and this may just well be one of the biggest he's ever made.]
...I'm sorry. I - failed you, as a teacher, by considering this. I know that may not be enough, but...it is all I can say, in the face of this mistake of mine.
[Though...it's clear that he's expecting anger. Expecting rage, expecting a break - expecting to lose something, yet again, as he always has.
And he's just bracing himself for the fall, so it won't hurt as much.]
no subject
Don't get rid of me, don't go away, please please please, you don't even have to be sorry just please still want me-
no subject
with that clinging, there's nothing else he can do - but just hold onto the crying boy, placing a hand on his back.]
Of course, I still want you. I will not abandon you, Akira - Not now. And if fate allows, not ever.
no subject
He manages to find breath and coherence again after a minute.]
I stopped getting close. So many of my Confidants died, so I stopped. But there was Goro. And now there's you. And I'm so scared.
[A couple of other people here are creeping past the self imposed rank limits he'd set, too.]
