Another week dawned.

But after the events at the trial, more than a few people would have wanted for time to stop still.

In this game, even unshakable loyalties....could be broken.🗈

If that were the case, then what was stopping even more horrible crimes from happening this thursday night?
And they knew they could do nothing to stop it from happening.

...Still, they had to continue the game, until one or both of the Witches admitted defeat, or the game itself came to a close.

Yet, they also felt as if something might change. Some big reveal felt as if it was just around the corner....but for now, it seemed as if they had to play the waiting game.

No matter how awful that felt.

[she takes another sip of her coffee, and then sets it down firmly on the counter.]

No more dragging this out. Last night, I went into Kimihiro-kun's heart. He helped me do it so that I could steal his heart's treasure. But his heart isn't like a normal human's, his palace was different, and so I'm still concerned, especially because I never saw his shadow, just fragments.

Kimihiro-kun's heart is fighting with whether to remain human, or more fully become a witch. And right now, the witch part is winning. He doesn't feel connected with us-- the only one he thinks understands him is Nirrti.

I don't know how much loneliness I had to go through to get to his treasure-- but it was a lot. And when I finally got to it... [it's here, she pulls out the marble.] It was like two halves of a whole, happiness from being human and happiness from being a witch. And they were in conflict.

[Oh great, more weird heart stuff... He never did pay too much attention to the various Akirens talking about stealing hearts... But the more he listens on, the more this whole thing starts hitting close to home.]

So... What you're saying is he's in danger of going completely mad from power?

Maybe. But the other aspect is being happy for a witch is more complicated than being happy for a human.

This game really is a good natured wager between the two of them-- and I don't think Kimihiro-kun would have picked us if he thought we were ever in danger of losing.

Kind of like the modeling competition between me and Ryuji last week.

So what are we gonna do about it? Because I don't think crossdressing is gonna help us much. Especially if people are gonna keep dying and becoming Furniture.

[Erhard's hanging back again, already on his second cup of coffee on an empty stomach. When he hears Ann mention a "good natured wager," he almost chokes on the sip he's taking and his brows pinch together in quiet anger.]

There's nothing good natured about this. People are dying.

[Ann looks a little surprised at that, but then she knits her eyebrows together, and frowns.]

Do you think I don't know that, Erhard?

But that doesn't matter, because they see it differently. I assume the human side of Watanuki knows this is wrong, but does the witch side?

[ There's. An immediate flash of guilt that shows in his expression and in his eyes. ] Kimihiro, you idiot. . . [ Even his voice there's a crackle of something that's in rather obvious pain as he can practically feel the proverbial knife twist in his chest because of it. But he does notice that Ann is calling him by his first name now. Not that he'll say anything about it yet. ] That's why-- that's why he said that, the other day. To me.

[ His breath catches slightly and he struggles to say it, shaking his head. ] Please don't think any less of him when I say this. He told me. . . "That's what makes you different from everyone else."

Honestly, I don’t get any of what you’re saying about Palaces and heart treasures, but you figured out some of what was going on with him, huh... and he asked you to? Well, at least he isn’t just sitting back pretending it isn’t happening.

It’s weird that he became a Witch but now he’s fighting being a Witch, though. I thought he could only get what he wanted as a Witch, but maybe it’s because he used to be a human? [a hum, he just looks mildly baffled because why this] Does this happen to every Witch or what? It’s so complicated.

I dunno. But also, seeing what happens to someone who fully gives into their witch-halves... I can't blame him for being worried.

And, honestly, no one wants to see themselves forget who they are.

Hmm. I don’t know if Nirrti is a really good example, though! She’s interesting, but if you use Misfortune as an example for everything you’re going to miss a few things.

[He seems kind of amused now. Like, he doesn’t mind Nirrti at all but she has some issues even for a magical nuke.]

I’ve always figured that if you changed and didn’t like it you’d just change back, usually, but some people totally get stuck in their ways. [but I mean, he’s also straight up a shapeshifter so this is a weird topic for him in a variety of ways, what do you want from him] Is his memory that bad, though? He is getting kind of old...

He became one for his friend, right? The original Yuuko? So already that sets them apart.

I don't know, actually. We still don't know why Nirrti became a Witch in the first place, after all.

He did say to me that 'his feelings didn't matter' in the game, and that as he's no longer a piece, he's 'not involved in these emotional bonds' when I try to tell him he can't just keep it bottled up.

Yeah.

I don't think we should win the game.

At least not in the way that Kimihiro and Nirrti have set it up.

It does seem increasingly like that is the wrong solution for this.

...that isn't a great surprise. It's rarely easy to be two things at once. To be a witch -or a demon- and still be human...

It's a difficult balancing act.

[There's a thin, subtle thread of anger to the words. At the situation, not at Ann or Watanuki.]

[Shadow is here in person today, but the wolf -- Terios -- is too. The wolf is sleeping and Shadow is resting against him.

He sneers at Ann's news]

I only half understood any of that, but that means we need to help him, right?

At least, if we don't want this to end really badly...

Aren't we already helping him? Whether we want to or not.

[There's an amused edge to it. He's messing around at least a little.]

But obviously us Pieces aren't helping in the right way or something. What a high-maintenance Witch.

I mean. We've been playing the game on the Witches' terms, right? Of course that's going to make him feel more like a Witch. And more like we're Pieces instead of people.

And here I'd thought he'd believe Syaoran would understand him more than anyone else.

[ This clearly goes deeper than some simple rivalry. Though, he's wagered that already. ]

[ While Syaoran isn't going to respond to this comment, there is definitely a flash of guilt at those words. Sorry, Riku. ]
