All of the guests awoke in their rooms, just like they had before.

Yesterday had been a day of surprises.
First, they'd finally met the person who had brought them here - the Witch of Dimensions, Yuuko.
Secondly, they'd learned they were going to be playing a horrible game.
And most important, they learned that wishes could be granted if they won this game.🗈

Still, for now, it seemed like there wasn't much to do. Was the Witch already in talks with the 'Murderer'? Was the 'victim' already decided upon?

There was no way to know until some day later this week, apparently.

Still, it wasn't all bad. The island was beautiful and the climate just perfect for beachgoing, or taking a cosy walk in the garden. There were also board and card games which would be produced upon request - and the tv in the Sitting Room - to help ease the boredom of it all.

Though, perhaps the guests would prefer to get to know each other instead? On maybe get into some trouble as they roamed the island.

Despite being told someone will die, it...felt remarkably peaceful. Could one of their own really be able to kill someone?

...Or, maybe...this is just the silence that comes just before a massive storm breaks, and sweeps away everything...

Erika's Letter

I am now confident I have familiarized myself with setting.

I am offering to help create something which you may find invaluable: alibis.

I shall be available in the dining room if you wish to learn more.

I will answer all questions to the best of my ability. This includes what I know about witches.

[ Syaoran is definitely showing up for this, actually. ] You said you know things about witches? [ He's curious, considering that her knowledge of witches might be different from his, so comparing notes would be good. ]

Indeed I did. I am intimately acquainted with witches. At least, in this context.

"In this context"...? Does that mean you're familiar with this game's setup?

Yes. With this exact mansion... with some exceptions, it is very similar.

And of course, I had never met this "Yuuko" who now claims to be a witch.

[He sure does exist! And now he exists in the same vicinity as Erika, waving the paper cheerfully at her, because he's absolutely up for this bait. This is going to end well.]

I thought you were already familiar with the setting! You sure talked to Yuuko like you were, but maybe you're just a really good actress.

[He's going to peer at her as though the secret to acting is in her eyebrows.]

So you know the Witches?

There are small but noticeable differences. Like a well-known storybook you know by heart, re-imagined by a new author. Shades of the original, but the devil is in the details.

As for specific witches, I had never met this "Yuuko" before, but I am very acquainted with the concept of witches, in this context.

I think I've heard of something like that. It's like a prank where somebody moves everything in your house a couple of inches to the right, while they're borrowing your house. That's pretty much what Yuuko was doing, huh?

Context, context... So, the context of Witches kidnapping people to really luxurious tropical islands to make them kill each other for a wish?

[Karen exists, and is forced to dismiss the idea of avoiding the dining room all day as implausible.

So when she comes in around lunchtime, she goes with plan B, pretending not to have received a letter or to have noticed Erika is in the room. She's just going to eat.]

Well, what a relief it is to finally meet a person with such a friendly face. You say you are Sora?

How do you do? I am the Great Detective, Furudo Erika is my name. I see you received my letter and chose to be proactive in your pursuit of the truth. This is behavior which most certainly should be rewarded.

[ Rubbing the bridge of his nose like that's something to be proud of. He will plop down in a chair though. ]

[ ...Well, she doesn't have too much else to do, and it seems like hearing about some of these things could be beneficial. At the very least, if this girl actually has any valuable information, it wouldn't make sense for Emi to put herself at a potential disadvantage by being the only one to not hear it. ]

Why not just call a meeting and share your information rather than having each of us ask you?

Because I have better things to do than waste my time dealing with idiots who would rather not be there and have no interest in pursuing the truth.

The tape idea is a good one, I'll admit. But you'd have to do the same to the windows. The latches are shoddy.

Indeed. I have all the information you could want. I am confident no one else would know it either... with the exception of perhaps this 'Yuuko' herself, but I doubt she would deign to speak so frankly.

So.. are you saying being a Witch is a state of mind? An act of will?

It certainly can be. The act of "doing magic" is more for the benefit of the person doing it than to enact some physical change.

In that case, the only way to shatter the magic is to prove the true course of events. Expose it in a way that can't be denied. Do not accept the simple explanation of "magic did it," but instead construct how it would be done by something real.

Challenge it. With your intellect. Or is your mind too weak to keep up with some witch's supposed 'powers'?
