WEEK 1 MINGLE - KALMIA

All of the guests awoke in their rooms, just like they had before.

Yesterday had been a day of surprises.
First, they'd finally met the person who had brought them here - the Witch of Dimensions, Yuuko.
Secondly, they'd learned they were going to be playing a horrible game.
And most important, they learned that wishes could be granted if they won this game.๐Ÿ—ˆ

Still, for now, it seemed like there wasn't much to do. Was the Witch already in talks with the 'Murderer'? Was the 'victim' already decided upon?

There was no way to know until some day later this week, apparently.

Still, it wasn't all bad. The island was beautiful and the climate just perfect for beachgoing, or taking a cosy walk in the garden. There were also board and card games which would be produced upon request - and the tv in the Sitting Room - to help ease the boredom of it all.

Though, perhaps the guests would prefer to get to know each other instead? On maybe get into some trouble as they roamed the island.

Despite being told someone will die, it...felt remarkably peaceful. Could one of their own really be able to kill someone?

...Or, maybe...this is just the silence that comes just before a massive storm breaks, and sweeps away everything...

Ah. But it is elegance itself.

[If the silence and staring had bothered her, she didn't say.]

It goes without saying that you would have to be a truly brazen killer to murder in the daytime, when everyone is active, and few are vulnerable. The truly dangerous time is at night.

How, therefore, can you prove that you stayed in the same place all night? And that you did not leave your room to commit the act?

I will tell you an old detective's trick I've used many times. The answer is simple:

Duct tape.

Duct tape.

[Karen would never object to the idea of duct tape as supremely useful, but she's not entirely sure how it fits here unless her first idea, which is stupid, is correct.]

Are you trying to get people to let you tape them up?

In a manner of speaking.

Every night, after someone enters their room, I will be present to apply duct tape to the outside of their door. Not only that, but I then serrate the tape. Any attempt to open the door, from the door being opened, or from the front, will result in a clean break. If the seal is still present the next morning, and a murder has been discovered, then the person who still has their room sealed at that time has a perfect alibi.

[That actually sounds like a good plan!

For roughly half a second before Karen sees the most obvious flaw.]

Leaving you without an alibi.

[And the second most obvious flaw.]

And in a position to say whatever you like about whose doors were still sealed.

[And the third most obvious flaw.]

And nobody can leave their rooms unless you're there with them, for fear of being accused of any murder that might happen.

Nonsense. At the end of the day, I retire to my own room and duct tape myself in from the inside. Of course, it goes without saying that as the detective, I cannot commit a murder, but being able to know if I have suffered a night intrusion is worth the effort.

Naturally. It's hardly an alibi if everyone moves about freely.

Are you sure about not being able to commit a murder? Because this sounds like a plan to make that as easy as possible for yourself.
very_good_end: (That's why you killed him too.)

[personal profile] very_good_end 2019-03-29 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Very. It's Knox's Seventh. It would be having a mystery under false pretenses. That obviously cannot happen, therefore I can't be the murderer. Or 'a' murderer.

Do people usually take you at your word when you say things like that?

They don't need to.

By all means: test your theory. You're free to even handcuff me and shove me in a locked room, if you're... frightened.

But I will have the facts of the case presented to me. And I will solve it.

First duct tape, now handcuffs. Are you sure this is about alibis?
