There was only one week left in this game, if the Witch was to be believed.

Despite the trial and it's painful conclusion, everything had been quiet over the weekend.

And those that had been lost were supposed to come back on this day. Not only that, but their natural abilities were supposed to return to them this week...🗈

And, indeed, as they wake up on Monday morning - the feeling of their old, lost abilities filters back in.

One promise kept - so will the others be kept, as well? As the prospect of the final week in the game stretches out before them, there's a sense of anticipation in the air...along with the grim knowledge that this weekend, the investigation and trial will happen again.

At least it'll be for the last time, right?

[ Good luck getting him that angry again, Vanitas - it's simmered into something more cool and composed, but the damage has been done. ]

You don't need to explicitly say that in order to imply that you might as well think as much.

[ He's pretty sure neither of them believed the hogwash Lambdadelta fed them in the beginning - which turned out not to be hogwash after all...and he'll raise a hand, pushing it forwards to hit Vanitas right in the face if he doesn't move. Riku is not in the mood to have this guy all up in his business because his face is just like Sora's. ]

I've already decided, so there's no point. You're just wasting your time, just like you did before.

[ One hand is tightly curled into a fist, even as his face is hit. And that hand is coming up to try slapping Riku's hand away, in spite of how he... is taking a step back.

... But, frankly? Everything is kind of feeling like too much, and this particular moment is nudging him a little dangerously past the edge, so to speak.

Pain, pain, pain... always pain. Always anger. Always that sense of longing and wanting, colliding with spite and bitterness.

So, put simply, there's a glare on top of a threat of tears, just as soon as Riku's figurative thumb twists into the figurative wound labeled "wasted time". And it's that threat of tears that summons up a swell of panic. And it's that swell of panic that has him scrambling for something that'll hurt Riku as much as possible. ]

Well- I hate you.

[ Yeah, because that's exactly what his expression is implying, right now. Sure, Vanitas.

Sure.

That's why the threat of tears edges past just being a threat just as he's turning away. ]

[ After his hand's slapped away, that kind of reaction isn't what he'd expected. Not at all.

In fact, it's the most surprising thing he'd seen from Vanitas, but it made sense. He'd known from his short time learning what he had from Xehanort that being under that man wouldn't be an easy experience. And despite it all, despite Vanitas' barbs, despite his intent to truly snuff Riku's life out just like that, his expression softens in the face of Vanitas' tears.

...It might've meant he was too soft. But was being so soft truly a crime? He'd witnessed Sora's kindness and gentleness firsthand enough to know that it was no longer a weakness. It's no surprise that he finds it in his heart to not treat Vanitas cruelly. Even if he's more wary and cautious around him, and even if he was honestly genuine upset. He can't help but reach out in his own way. ]

I don't really believe that, not for a second. But, even if you really do...just remember that you don't have to face all of this alone. It's not going to be easy, but it will be quicker if you just let people who want to help you do exactly that.

I just don't think you deserve to suffer, even if that's what you believe.
