MOCK ROUND - WEEK 2

There was only one week left in this game, if the Witch was to be believed.

Despite the trial and it's painful conclusion, everything had been quiet over the weekend.

And those that had been lost were supposed to come back on this day. Not only that, but their natural abilities were supposed to return to them this week...🗈

And, indeed, as they wake up on Monday morning - the feeling of their old, lost abilities filters back in.

One promise kept - so will the others be kept, as well? As the prospect of the final week in the game stretches out before them, there's a sense of anticipation in the air...along with the grim knowledge that this weekend, the investigation and trial will happen again.

At least it'll be for the last time, right?

Wow, Riku's eyes narrow for a moment there, but then he closes his eyes right after, releasing a breath of sorts. ]

What made you want to fulfill his wish?

[ He's gotta know, considering, you know. ]

...Because his wish is to stop being in pain. That sounds pretty sad, don't you think?

[And because he feels bad about taking that wish away from him.]

[ Riku supposed he should've been grateful. He's alive, he's not dead, and he evidently had trusted the wrong person because he'd been too caught up in how similar Vanitas had looked to his best friend.

Now that he even knows better (as to the story of the "execution", but the pictures have yet to be revealed) since this is later in the day...he can't help but feel a little contrary. ]

...Do you really think you can help him?

[ That came out sounding pretty cold, even as Riku reaches for one of the papers in a flash, looking at it curiously. ]

Maybe it sounds sad. But, we wouldn't know for sure what he'd do once his wish is granted, and how much it'll take to stop him from being in pain. [ ... ] Did he even tell you what exactly was causing his pain in the first place?

[As can be expected, there's a lot of notes - it seems he's not only been copying down spells, but adding in notes of his own, possibilities. Some of them are relating to stopping pain; others are for powerful healing.]

Because he's only half of a person. The darkness from that person.

[ These certainly are interesting. Well, Asuma has heart - maybe too much.

He'll place it right back down. ]

Enough to know what you got there probably isn't enough. [ ... ] Are you sure it's even worth it? You can't be too sure it won't backfire.

Well, since my only real ideas right now are blasting him with enough healing to make up for half a person, or trying to stop the pain itself... Yeah.

[Sticking out his tongue! He's trying.]

What do you mean by backfire?

[There's a few ways it could, but he's pretty certain Riku doesn't know the extent of one in particular.]

Anything dealing with darkness is dangerous, especially when you're not familiar with working with it. You could wind up hurting yourself or worse.

[ Yeah okay Riku is being a mother hen about this, but Vanitas is filled with darkness, which means in order to "fix" things, Asuma is going to need to come into contact with it. ]

...if you're really committed to doing this, I might as well help, since even if I tried to persuade you not to do it, you'd probably wouldn't listen. I happen to have more experience dealing with darkness than you do too.

[ Okay that is a presumptuous but look, not many people have, to be fair. ]

It would be nice to get some tips though... [No comment on how committed he is. They both already know the answer there.]

And good to have someone there in case something goes wrong.

What kinds of things are most likely to go wrong?

[ Only a million things ever. ]

Being corrupted by darkness, losing your heart, dying, accidentally summoning something you shouldn't, and other things that can and will go wrong when we're dealing with the darkness in someone's heart that I haven't even accounted for.

Ahaha... Well, it wouldn't be a wish if it were solved that simply.

[But for all the smiles, he does make careful note of all that.]

Corruption - how is that caused? Like, would it be a problem if I enchanted an item or a potion to give to him instead of trying to use my magic on him directly?
