MOCK WEEK - WEEK 1 TRIAL
It was noon on Friday.
No matter where they were, no matter what they were doing...the moment the chimes rang out through the hall, they felt a change.
The world...began to expand, as they felt themselves leaving the world they were on, and towards another, much larger world...🗈

The world...began to expand, as they felt themselves leaving the world they were on, and towards another, much larger world...🗈
This new world looked like...the inside of an ornate courtroom, like something that wouldn't be too far from some kind of grand fantasy novel.
The Witch, Lambdadelta was there, sitting in the most important place, smiling brightly at everyone. There was no music to be heard, but... perhaps on another plane, in another place, someone else heard music as they gazed upon the proceedings.
As they looked around, they might have also been surprised to see that their forms had changed - perhaps only slightly, or a much more dramatic change. It seemed like this place demanded a different form in some way, even if it was just a change of clothing.
...There was a deep silence in the room, one that no one wanted to break. It was the faint tension in the air, like the moments before a race or a competition begins.
Yesterday had been the start of the game. But now, armed with all they knew...now, they had to truly go up against the Witch, and somehow.....win.
Right?

Right?

What was your wish, Vanitas?
no subject
To stop hurting. Pretty funny, at this point, all things considered.

There are some who would say that is the nature of life. To burn, to burn away until nothing remains. If we were not in the witch's domain, I would have given you eternal life, and freedom from that.
That is what my salvation means.
But since we are here, then it is not something I can grant. You've fought well to get this far.

Guess, in the end, victim and the culprit had a lot more in common than I thought.
no subject
You, and Riku?
no subject
Yeah. He fought hard until the end. [ another laugh ] He was as stubborn as I expected.
[ Quiet for a moment. ]
It's my fault for underestimating some of you.
no subject
[That's not just about Riku, but about the whole trial itself.
Because the trial itself was a pitched battle, with themselves and with the witch. No one wants to go out with a whimper, do they? There's a faint smile on her features now -- there's a warmth to it, but it's the warmth of a gardener regarding the weeds in her garden.
Tenacious, tenacious, and yet uprooted so quickly.]
no subject
[ He's shaking his head. ]
I refused to take a cheap route.

[She contemplates that, admires it a little like she admires all the ambitions of living things.
It's a good thing to see, even at this hour. Some would say -- especially at this hour, but to the timeless that means nothing. It's a fresh paradox, for her the way she is now.]
Are you satisfied?
[Or as satisfied as he can be, given the circumstances.]
no subject
[ . . . well. ]
Doesn't the reason for killing someone becoming pointless, make it so their death was for nothing?
no subject
[There's something flat in her face. It isn't directed at Vanitas.]
Death is pointless, and always meaningless. It is an ugly end to the beauty of life, always. It is our pride that makes us think we can add meaning to it.
So rest assured. Your actions haven't added or taken away the meaning to his death.
no subject
There isn't any other way to make it stop?
[This is just pretend, isn't it? Perhaps they could find some other kind of magic...?]
no subject
Attaining salvation, my dear murderer.
no subject
The Witch here isn't the only one with magic.
no subject
... And?
no subject
[Simple as that. It'll come at a price, of course, but...
He sacrificed Vanitas' wish. It's only fair he make his own to make up for it, isn't it?]
no subject
... I never asked you to do that.
no subject
no subject
... Why? Why would you do something like that?
no subject
[He'd said as much earlier.]
Besides, I'm your dear murderer. If I'm still in the running to get my own wish, I might as well try to grant yours in apology.
no subject
You say all that as though I wouldn't have done the exact same thing to you - or anyone here - that I did to Riku.
Or that you helped do to me.
no subject
[Asuma's a cheerful and friendly sort, but he's not stupid.]
Are you that concerned about accepting a wish from someone "innocent?"
no subject
It's not about that.
no subject
[Use your words, Vanitas. You can do it.]
no subject
... Don't worry about it.
[ He'll bring it up later, at least. ]
