MOCK WEEK - WEEK 1 TRIAL

It was noon on Friday.

No matter where they were, no matter what they were doing...the moment the chimes rang out through the hall, they felt a change.

The world...began to expand, as they felt themselves leaving the world they were on, and towards another, much larger world...🗈

This new world looked like...the inside of an ornate courtroom, like something that wouldn't be too far from some kind of grand fantasy novel.

The Witch, Lambdadelta was there, sitting in the most important place, smiling brightly at everyone. There was no music to be heard, but... perhaps on another plane, in another place, someone else heard music as they gazed upon the proceedings.

As they looked around, they might have also been surprised to see that their forms had changed - perhaps only slightly, or a much more dramatic change. It seemed like this place demanded a different form in some way, even if it was just a change of clothing.

...There was a deep silence in the room, one that no one wanted to break. It was the faint tension in the air, like the moments before a race or a competition begins.

Yesterday had been the start of the game. But now, armed with all they knew...now, they had to truly go up against the Witch, and somehow.....win.

Right?

You chose someone stubborn. Did you want a fight, in the end?

[That's not just about Riku, but about the whole trial itself.

Because the trial itself was a pitched battle, with themselves and with the witch. No one wants to go out with a whimper, do they? There's a faint smile on her features now -- there's a warmth to it, but it's the warmth of a gardener regarding the weeds in her garden.

Tenacious, tenacious, and yet uprooted so quickly.]

Killing someone who won't actually fight back isn't my style.

[ He's shaking his head. ]

I refused to take a cheap route.

Pride... isn't it?

[She contemplates that, admires it a little like she admires all the ambitions of living things.

It's a good thing to see, even at this hour. Some would say -- especially at this hour, but to the timeless that means nothing. It's a fresh paradox, for her the way she is now.]

Are you satisfied?

[Or as satisfied as he can be, given the circumstances.]

Heh... Pride is all I have left, isn't it?

[ . . . well. ]

Doesn't the reason for killing someone becoming pointless, make it so their death was for nothing?

It has carried you far. But...

[There's something flat in her face. It isn't directed at Vanitas.]

Death is pointless, and always meaningless. It is an ugly end to the beauty of life, always. It is our pride that makes us think we can add meaning to it.

So rest assured. Your actions haven't added or taken away the meaning to his death.
