WEEK 1 - MINGLE

WEEK 1

You've found a safe haven from the wind and the snow - yet, perhaps you're not quite out of danger yet. The Resort Staff are odd, but seem harmless - jumping to any whim you might have, if it doesn't make them oddly lock up.

The weather all week is perfect - the perfect temp and snow for plenty of skiing. The firepit in the courtyard is always lit too, with ingredients for smores and hot chocolate always available in the lobby. Though...in the halls, a strange bunch of songs keep playing from the hotel's sound system. Is whoever runs this place a weird cover song enthusiast?

So far, everything seems fine....but there's a weird sense of unease lingering over the Resort as everyone wakes up Monday Morning. Maybe that has something to do with that strange memory that popped in your head when you woke up? Or maybe it's that all of you woke up in the middle of a snowstorm, with no memory of how you got there?

In the end...even though everything should be fine, why does it feel like this is only the prelude to a nightmare...?

['sup, bird. Iwai pretty much nods at Archimedes. With that kind of behavior, it's pretty obvious it's not just some random pigeon]

Must have taken a while to train a bird as smart as this one.

[If he's smart enough to push his limits, then he sure is very smart, for a bird]
blutsauger: (Midnight meetings inside the graveyard)

Oh, not really. You just need to figure out what he wants and what he's willing to do. Same with any animal.

But he is very smart and talented!

[God he's so proud of his bird son

[also fun fact from my own work w/ wild birds, most of our resident birds of prey will push the shit out of their boundaries even when they've been trained for years because they wanna see what they can get away with. my own birds too. all birds smart]]

[Birds are really cool, eh?]

Why did you even need to train a pigeon? Messenger pigeon?
blutsauger: (From the recent deceased)

[personal profile] blutsauger 2018-11-27 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, since you asked-

[oh lord here we go]

Carrier pigeons in particular have been extinct for years, but you're close, as they were bred to eventually develop the breed that Archimedes is. Archimedes was originally a homing pigeon used for wedding ceremonies- they're usually referred to as doves for these festivities, because of the symbolism of doves and peace, but homing pigeons are capable of being trained to find their "home" from hundreds of miles away. Of course, there's still dangers of predation, the elements, and just plain getting lost, so it's a rather treacherous job and the ethics of it are debatable. I, ahh, obtained him some years ago, along with the rest of his flock, and I've built upon that flock over the years into a sizeable aviary.

Unfortunately, only Archimedes came with me- but I know my flock very well, and I know they have people who will take care of them in my absence. [Whether they want to or not; Medic's teammates have spent years growing to care about these birds, but even if they didn't, no one wants to piss of the Medic by neglecting his flock.]

Ah- so, basically, to answer your question, I didn't need to train him much, just work with his instincts and his previous training; as well as listen to what he wanted, and act upon that.

[Archimedes is pecking at the turkey bacon again.]

[Well at least Iwai can't say he didn't learn something today. He's pretty sure he has no use to this information, but it was interesting enough for him to not regret asking]

Too bad we're too far for the pigeon to get help.

[Smart bird or not, it's...unlikely it'll manage to do well, because of all the dangers the Medic just mentioned. Especially the weather]

...wait a sec...yes...

[...hm, this gives him an idea]

I suppose you already sent him to explore around to make sure there aren't any other buildings nearby, yes?

[If it's the areas close to the resort maybe he wouldn't be in as much danger as he'd be otherwise, but he's not thinking about asking for help.

It's simply to get information of what's nearby -- if all there is around here is snow and trees]

blutsauger: (Weigh heavy on my soul)

[personal profile] blutsauger 2018-11-27 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Not yet, but I've considered it! Archimedes isn't all that willing to go back out in the snow just yet, but I've been working on convincing him.

[Medic looks pointedly at Archimedes, who is looking innocently away from the half-eaten turkey bacon.] He doesn't think it'll be worth the effort- but any information can help.

[Hoooo.]

Hush.

Could help to bribe him with more of that meat.

[Archimedes sure seems to be very into meat, for some reason. Carnivore pigeon]
blutsauger: (I will no doubt sleep perfectly sound)

[personal profile] blutsauger 2018-11-28 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
But I don't want him to eat more meat, it's not a good diet for him. He needs to eat his grains. [pointed glare] Don't you, Archimedes?

[Hoo.]

Don't lie to me, I can see the pile you left behind on the plate.

[Coo-roooo.]

No, that's not your "second helping", you little liar!

[Medic sounds a little frustrated, but that doesn't stop him from smiling at Archimedes. That's his baby and hes really proud]

I have no idea how you can understand 'im.

[Iwai has the impression the Medic simply imagines a response, really. There has to be a limit to that bird's smarts!]

blutsauger: (Desecrate those who rest in peace)

[personal profile] blutsauger 2018-11-28 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahh... Well. That's a long story for another time, I feel.

[Now that one person already knows he sold his soul and a few others know he was in hell, Medic's starting to remember that maybe keeping secrets is good sometimes.]
geckodad: 12 (12)

[personal profile] geckodad 2018-11-28 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I see, it's a secret.

[Not that Iwai can't understand that. He's keeping secrets of his own too, hah!]

So, what's your opinion on everythin'? How screwed are we?

[And are you going to keep any future dead person's skull for your pigeon?]

blutsauger: (Ripping bodies from hallowed ground)

[personal profile] blutsauger 2018-11-29 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I've been in worse situations, but I'm pretty sure I'm an outlier. And I'm not a fan of the fact that, well- most of the people here seem to be teenagers. And if that "mafia" game turns out more sinister than the Staff described it... I don't like it.

[At least part of why Medic is concerned is that he finds the idea of experimenting on kids to be distasteful, so nearly all available test subjects here go out the window]
geckodad: 4 (4)

[personal profile] geckodad 2018-11-29 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Once Iwai finds out about that he'll want Medic to at least ask beforehand if he can experiment on his dead body, hah]

'If'? It's a guarantee.

[You know, given the...dead person's bones and ghost, the corpse-eating rats, the general eerie place this is, the bizarre staff, and everything else]

blutsauger: (While you struggle)

[personal profile] blutsauger 2018-11-29 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Please, Medic always asks first with live civilians! Other mercenaries, however, should know what they're getting into when they sign that contract.

If Iwai's already dead and not present as a ghost, though, there's no one to ask permission from, soooo...]

I know, I know- I suppose I just hold out a little hope. It feels like everything is out of my control, and I hate that.

There has to be something we can do.

[If not to survive, then to get out of here]
