WEEK 1 - MINGLE

WEEK 1

You've found a safe haven from the wind and the snow - yet, perhaps you're not quite out of danger yet. The Resort Staff are odd, but seem harmless - jumping to any whim you might have, if it doesn't make them oddly lock up.

The weather all week is perfect - the perfect temp and snow for plenty of skiing. The firepit in the courtyard is always lit too, with ingredients for smores and hot chocolate always available in the lobby. Though...in the halls, a strange bunch of songs keep playing from the hotel's sound system. Is whoever runs this place a weird cover song enthusiast?

So far, everything seems fine....but there's a weird sense of unease lingering over the Resort as everyone wakes up Monday Morning. Maybe that has something to do with that strange memory that popped in your head when you woke up? Or maybe it's that all of you woke up in the middle of a snowstorm, with no memory of how you got there?

In the end...even though everything should be fine, why does it feel like this is only the prelude to a nightmare...?

[Blue Angel's pretty much a regular at the restaurant by now, and tends to hang out by the kitchens a lot because she likes double-checking the food (despite the danger of finding even more freezerburned or cookied human remains?? gross?!), but when Ripley starts waxing poetic about non-space food, she's drawn over out of curiosity.

Mostly, she kind of wants to ask about aliens and space, because that's one area she has absolutely no experience in aside from sci-fi movies and things, but instead -- there is suddenly pasta.]

Ah... Are you okay? Do you want me to ask the kitchen for something else?

[She's not one to waste food, so she's okay with surprise pasta, but it seems just politer and generally better to make sure the pasta's former owner is all squared away first.]

[Ah, it's her again. Ripley shakes her head, trying to maintain a smile on her face. Though, it doesn't take a detective to see that she's still vaguely disquieted. At least a conversation might help take her mind off of that whole terrible incident.]

No, no, it's fine. I'll just order something, later. [A pause, then a snort.] Maybe without meat.

[She leans against the tabletop, taking another sip of coffee.]

You a fan of pasta?

[She can definitely tell that whatever bothered Ripley about the pasta is still hanging over her, but it's not like she can keep prying when... she has the feeling it wouldn't go anywhere, and besides, an adult probably isn't interested in having a weird sort-of teenager pry into their affairs anyway.

All the same, she'll keep company if it's being offered in the form of Italian goods. Maybe she'll eventually ask about aliens and space after all, maybe not. For now:]

Oh. I guess the meat can put people off here -- but I usually check the kitchens just to make sure, and I don't think they put anything funny in it this time. [a glance down at the food before she picks up a fork and starts sifting through it to see just what kind of pasta she's gotten herself into] We usually eat Japanese food at my house, but I don't mind Western food. I'm not a picky eater.

[Perhaps surprisingly, given her appearance.]

[It's a lot to tell any teenager that your entire crew was mercilessly slaughtered by an alien because the company was too self-absorbed to even consider the danger of transporting an organism that they knew little to nothing about.

...She wasn't even thinking that the meat might contain human flesh, but she's glad to have another thing to excuse her discomfort on.]

Still, it's better to be safe than sorry.

[Something that her crew didn't seem to learn before it was too late.]

You're Japanese, then? I haven't eaten too much Japanese food, myself--um, unless you count the sushi restaurants I've been to in New York. I doubt those are authentic, though.

[She wouldn't be surprised by the unscrupulousness of the company, at the very least. Corporate shadiness is pretty rampant where she comes from, too. The alien massacre is definitely not dinner material, though!

Anyway, Blue Angel will start eating, movements delicate but efficient. Keeping things clean, since her outfit and general aesthetic necessitates it, but otherwise she's just cautiously enjoying the food.]

I do agree with that.

[Which is why she was checking on it! But she'll let Ripley make her excuses, because see previous assessments of this conversation.]

Japan, though, yes. And I've never been to New York, so I wouldn't know how authentic their sushi is? Do they still make them with the same kinds of fish?

[Ripley watches Blue Angel eat, crossing her arms. She still can't quite get the virtual avatar vs real life manifestation thing through her head. To be fair, though, this whole situation is quite difficult to wrap her head around.

...Blue Angel is also a change from the rest of her crew, who tended to just shove all the food into their mouths and then go back to their hypersleep pods. That's what happens when most of your crew are men.]

I'd assume so? Like...salmon, tuna, shrimp, so on and so forth. I guess it'd depend on who was making the sushi, specifically.

...

Do you actually have to eat, since you're...y'know, a virtual avatar?

Hmm, I thought it might be different because New York is next to a different ocean, right? But I guess it's mostly the same. There's also mackerel and jellyfish and everything.

[Though it's debatable if she's adventurous with her food -- this is probably the furthest afield she's ventured, since she hasn't bothered specifying a request for every meal so sometimes the kitchen surprises her. Usually in the good way.

Studying murder abroad sure broadens your horizons...?

There's a small quirk of a smile as she finishes another mouthful before answering.]

There's some virtual realities that replicate food? But Link VRAINS doesn't really need that kind of thing. I've just been eating when I get hungry.

[Which she didn't do all that much in VRAINS -- the getting hungry thing, that is. Sessions usually weren't quite long enough or weren't timed for that.]
