WEEK 1 - MINGLE

WEEK 1

You've found a safe haven from the wind and the snow - yet, perhaps you're not quite out of danger yet. The Resort Staff are odd, but seem harmless - jumping to any whim you might have, if it doesn't make them oddly lock up.

The weather all week is perfect - the perfect temp and snow for plenty of skiing. The firepit in the courtyard is always lit too, with ingredients for smores and hot chocolate always available in the lobby. Though...in the halls, a strange bunch of songs keep playing from the hotel's sound system. Is whoever runs this place a weird cover song enthusiast?

So far, everything seems fine....but there's a weird sense of unease lingering over the Resort as everyone wakes up Monday Morning. Maybe that has something to do with that strange memory that popped in your head when you woke up? Or maybe it's that all of you woke up in the middle of a snowstorm, with no memory of how you got there?

In the end...even though everything should be fine, why does it feel like this is only the prelude to a nightmare...?

[She grimaces.] I was hoping that wasn't apparent, but...yes.

[In an attempt to keep a pleasant attitude, she manages a small smile.]

A doctor? Well, let's hope that if anybody here gets hurt, you or Medic can jump in and save the day. And, yes, though...from what I hear, a lot of people are from time periods in which space travel is uncommon. Where I'm from, humans are scattered throughout colonies on various planets and moons. So, really, it's just another job.

It's alright. Trauma leaves scars that run deep, but they're nothing to be ashamed of. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, or however that trite saying goes.

[he is all about pleasantries, forced or otherwise]

I am more of a researcher, but my knowledge of anatomy, first aid, and wound management are certainly up to snuff. But that is interesting -- not only that the humans of your time have colonized space, but that this place was able to pull you back so easily. [he takes another bite of pasta, then leans forward] ... I must ask... what is it like....? In space? [the question has genuine curiosity behind it, a spark in his eye that wasn't there while he was just making small talk]

[She lets out a sharp, humorless laugh. Sure, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger sometimes, but at what cost? She's heard that line far too many times, and has gone through far too much to completely believe it.]

Sure, whatever. [Said with a tinge of doubt in her voice.]

It's...empty. And quiet. If you get caught in as situation out there, far from home, you can't rely on anybody except yourself and your own crew. [She twists her mouth to the side.] You've got to be able to keep a cool head and trust in your crew and their abilities, otherwise...everything just falls apart.

[She falls quiet for a moment, her eyes unfocused. She's clearly lost in thought, at the moment, though she won't give up what she's thinking about. After a few moments, she shakes her head and speaks again.]

But, usually, nothing happens if you all do your jobs right.

[despite her discomfort, Szayel seems absolutely fascinated, as only a scientist can be]

I see... fascinating. That sort of absolute emptiness, complete isolation. It must be very frightening, at first. But, I suppose like anything else, it becomes... mmm, routine. [he pushes his glasses up and helps himself to more pasta] The humans in my world, in my time, are far from being able to colonize space. Last I checked, they had only made it to the moon -- once.

[In space, no one can hear you scream.

...Of course, Ripley wouldn't know that tagline, since it literally comes from her movie.]

I've realized most people are from other earlier time periods. [So, a lot of explanation on astronaut stuff....]

I'm from the moon, actually. Uh, Luna, we call it now. There are far too many colonized moons to keep track of, nowadays. People don't really do too much traveling from planet to planet, travel time is still pretty slow.

[Szayel doesn't know it either -- they don't really have movies in Hueco Mundo.]

Really? The moon is colonized? Do you grow crops there? Raise livestock?

Yeah, I'm from Olympia, specifically. Fun fact, Olympia was the first extra-planetary colony. And, no, there's not that much farming on Luna--sort of hard when you don't exactly have dirt or atmosphere to grow things. We import all of our food from Earth--it's a lot cheaper than what it would take to establish a farming infrastructure. Most of the industry is mining or manufacturing.

[Also, the companies benefit more from exporting their goods as opposed to actually creating sustainable things for the population. That's capitalism, baby!

She sighs.]
Though me and my wife were talking about moving to Earth--the air quality's better, there.

[he loves fun facts!!] I see! So the cities there are in... bubbles, or something? With manufactured atmosphere? [he's trying to picture it! but for what it's worth, he's still totally enthused]

I admit, Earth is all I've ever known. Though it's a part of Earth the living don't usually manage to stumble on to.

Sort of. They're protected by failsafe upon failsafe so that the residents don't have to worry about, you know, being sucked out into space. There's a lot of complex engineering that would likely take too long to explain.

[also disclaimer i dont actually know anything so im just making up shit]

Really? That's quite interesting-- [A pause.] Wait, the living?
perfeccion: (020 is it real?)

[personal profile] perfeccion 2018-12-07 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Haha! I understand. Never fear, I can use my imagination.

[I love making shit up it's one of my best skills]

[he slurps up some more pasta, nodding as he does so. He dabs his mouth with his napkin before continuing] Mm, yes. The living. My world is divided into several different planes; the World of the Living, Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and Hell... as well as a few places that fit between the cracks. There are far more dead souls than there are living ones, and they're distributed through the latter three.
