INVESTIGATION (?)

Friday morning comes and goes with no dead bodies to discover. Saturday morning passes with no trial. For two days, it seems like the Lady might be keeping to her word. This might truly be a week of rest, with no outside trouble brought in.

(She takes no responsibility for the incident in the vents, so.)

But then on Saturday night, close to midnight, the sound cuts off throughout the resort. The cause of the sudden quiet is unknown, but one thing is clear: something bad has happened.

[There's a pause, mid-cast, before the art initiates and covers Gerome in a soft, blue glow. He shakes his head, glancing over at Owain.]

It's nothing. We're all in this together, and that means we have to help each other out when we're in a tough spot.

[maskarang]

[ It's slow, but thanks largely to the noise and the uncomfortable feeling of hands pressing on his wounds Gerome starts to regain consciousness. The first thing he does is try to bat the Rean's hands away way. The second thing he does is blearily look around for Vanitas, to the point where he actually tries weakly sitting up to find him. ]

Where—?

[swordhandled]

Gerome--!

[ gently, but firmly grabbing him by the shoulders as he just starts crying in relief ]

[relentlesslyonwards]

[Okay whoa, he will move his hands away then?? It feels a little awkward for him to interrupt so he'll just. Sit back and watch quietly.

You guys have your moment.]

[maskarang]

[ Hope Owain doesn't mind that is skin is kind of cold! His reaction is a bit slow, but he is aware and after a brief delay he puts his hand on Owain and very, very lightly pushes him back. ]

... Stop. [ There's no trace of shyness in his tone, if anything? There's guilt. A heavy guilt. He can't meet Owain's gaze, either, so he looks to Rean instead. ]

[Rean simply looks on at the whole scene, not saying anything. There's a slight widening of the eyes when Gerome turns to him before he smooths out his expression and moves closer again, pressing his shoulders down gently.]

Let's get you back down. It wouldn't be good if the bleeding started up again.

[maskarang]

I don't need rest. [ He says tiredly, needing rest. He doesn't fight being pressed down further other than weakly nudging Rean's hands away again, though. ]

Where is— [ He realizes he doesn't really know Vanitas' name. ] —the other one. The boy.

You mean Vanitas? He's being taken care of right now by Roxas and the Medic. He'll be fine.

[He doesn't actually know if Vanitas will be fine tbh but it's probably better not to agitate Gerome more than he already is. Still, while they're waiting...]

Can you tell us what happened?

[ A wise plan. He can't say he knows Vanitas well or anything but, well. Shit happens when you're attacked by a rampaging tiger. ]

... Some of it. [ He pauses to get his thoughts in order to say this as efficiently as he can. ] A tiger—Atsushi—killed Cynthia. He seemed resistant to physical attacks and magic seemed to do little beyond distract him. Vanitas and I were injured as we made our escape.

[He was one of the people who found Cynthia's body, so that part of the story is clear enough, but...]

I'm glad you guys managed to get out alive. Resistant, though?

My lance broke the instant I struck him.

[He looks a little hesitant and awkward here, but.]

...My condolences for your loss.

[ doesn't mind at all! but he's making a slightly hurt face when gerome pushes him away, but he can hazard a guess why. ]

How are you feeling? [ he's speaking softly, trying to get gerome to look at him. ]

[ if he saw that hurt expression, he'd probably make one of his own (more than his current one anyway). then it would just be a cycle of hurt faces and feelings.

he... does look over briefly before trying to take in his surroundings again. ] Fine enough. [ he, the man with four gashes, says. he grimaces for only a semi-related reason. ] ... Owain, I—

[ shaking his head slowly. ] You're needed elsewhere. The lobby...

I know, Gerome.

[ a pause before he reaches out again to place a hand on his shoulder ]

I couldn't leave until I knew you were going to be alright.

[maskarang]

[ he knows. of course he does, and that must mean he's been out for long enough for someone to find cynthia. he places a hand over his forehead and presses against it as hard as he can manage.

after, he cautiously lets himself lean into owain's touch. ] ... She deserved better.

[swordhandled]

We weren't enough for her.

[maskarang]

No, we weren't.

Will... you be alright?

[maskarang]

... I will. [ but, he does reach over to take owain's hand. if they're going to be this awful anyway— ] But if you plan to leave, I have a request.

[swordhandled]

What is it? Tell me... [ gripping his hand tight ]

I'd like to go with you.

[swordhandled]

Are you sure? You're still injured... [ not saying no, just worried ]

I am. [ both sure and injured! but medic has that nifty pain killer so hey. ]
