TRIAL

The morning seemed so far away yesterday - yet, it also seems too soon when morning comes and you are all yet again ushered to the third floor by The Lady. The Captain is there, in all of his....wait, no, he's asleep.

The doors close, and...nothing happens. There's still the box labeled 'VOTES' in his lap on the couch, but...

On the table is a letter, that reads 'Only one person may be voted for execution this week. Please figure out who that will be during the time limit.'

As you finish reading that, music begins to play in the room...

That seems likely - someone who likely knew Inaba-san and Emiya-san both had roles.

Who did they trust then?

... Inaba-san said that the only ones who knew her role, or knew she had a role, were Akira-kun, Arisato-kun, Niijima-san and Nakajima-kun. That she knew of.

So either it was leaked somehow, or there was another role that could leak this information.

It couldn't have been any of the ones who already knew?

It could, but that would be really sloppy on the part of the mafia.

Is that right? I think most of us trust them enough that we wouldn't suspect them.

We've got two common denominators. Akira, and Makoto.

[What that means has yet to become more clear.]

How does Shirou come into it?

I knew Shriou's role. That's why I made the big display I did at the last trial, to make people think I was the Seeker.

I didn't tell anyone about his role as the Seeker. Not even Inaba, when she told me she was the Inquisitor.

[Gestures towards Makoto.]

I also specifically asked Inaba to not tell me what her role was.

[he'll tell Makoto a lot of things, but other people's roles? not one of them]

...Do you know if Shirou told anyone else or...?

[shakes his head]

He never told me that he told anyone else, but that doesn't mean he didn't.

He was going to check Cynthia-san this week.

Emiya-san was the Seeker, right? Kurusu-san was the one who told me about Flat-san's role last week. He probably got that information from Emiya-san.

So the question is, who did Emiya-san and Kurusu-san tell that information to?

You know who he was close with?

Maybe Kurusu-san or Niijima-san knows, though?

... It might not necessarily be just who they told. Last week, at the trial, when Niijima-san and especially Akira-kun revealed the Barghest's name, it was pretty obvious from your reactions who was closest to them and the information and who wasn't. You, Nakajima-kun. Inaba-san. Shirou-kun. Arisato-kun.

[That was something she'd noted, low-key, but she hadn't had quite enough information on roles or familiarity with mafia to put it all together.]

Do you think... they took a wild stab out of the people who reacted differently, and just got... well, lucky?

[The word feels wrong in this context, but that's what it would be for the mafia, right?]

I told you, Makoto and Minato. That's it.

But I didn't tell any of you who the Seeker was.

As far as I know, Shirou only told me.

Well... we know that Akira had to get the information about the Barghest from someone. And we know now that he's not the Seeker, so...

I still don't understand roles... but I know Sataling and the others wouldn't ever leak it without making it seem like it's them instead.

[ Like Akira did in the last trial. Or all trials ]

Like the last trial.

[They're all thinking it. It's pretty obvious in retrospect, but the misdirection wasn't all that shoddy. There was something else going on here.]

I don't think anything about that trial pointed specifically to Shirou-kun, so I think it might have been something outside of that.
