WEEK 3

Week three opens like the other two weeks, but when you wake up, you know there's been a change in the area. At first, nothing is wrong - but when you look at any window, you aren't greeted with the cheery sight of the outside - instead, there's just a cold, harsh blackness. Trying to leave out the doors is impossible, too - if you try, you just find yourself back on the couches in the lobby. On top of that....The Staff are beginning to act even stranger, their glitching out becoming more obvious. Sometimes, they seemingly go blank mid sentence and walk away, as if they were reset, and slur or stutter their words.

The weather is...well, non-existent, except for the courtyard, which is still pleasantly snowy. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Another piece to the puzzle, one step closer to finding the truth of this place. Yet, it doesn't seem like you're any closer to solving this...

And time still ticks onwards, regardless if you're ready or not.

Well the Barghest isn't a Japanese monster, so maybe. . . some sort of Catholic or Christian exorcism? Do they even have those?

I-It reminded me of, um... old horror movies.

[she's not an expert. and horror movies are... hard for her]

. . . maybe I should have asked for a bunch of horror movies before the Staff started getting even more crazy. I don't really remember much of how the exorcism works in those movies.

I-- don't remember. I can't stand horror movies.

[but she pauses.]

Maybe... we should research the priests?

[ There's a hum of interest, but then again, she's not surprised based on things she's heard. ]

I think that could probably work... actually. Are there even any priests here?

Didn't Aoi-san mention Troit-san...?

Hmm... Still, we need to start researching.

I'll go look through all the books I can find.

[ Although she wouldn't call her a priest??? ] Please do. I already have enough books on my plate that I need to memorize before tomorrow myself.

I'm probably not the best choice here, to be honest. While exorcism is something the church did, it was something another branch was in charge of.

While I'm probably qualified to assist, my Star Energy isn't compatible with the monsters we've seen so far. There's a good chance that me assisting with the exorcism could actually make things harder.

I mean, it's the first thing that came to mind. I know Shinto has a way, but maybe if the Barghest can be exorcised, the Jorogumo can too? Maybe they have different exorcist methods based on their legends...?

[ He'll nod, thinking that sounds reasonable. Though... ]

...I don't really know much stuff about exorcisms now that I think about it. How does it usually work in general?

Basically you're just expelling the spirit out of the body. I know more about harae than I know about Christian exorcisms, though. . . and I was thinking that since there's a chapel, it's probably leaning towards the latter?

But if it's similar, harae basically is used for purification of sins and uncleanness. It usually involved symbolic washing with water and then the priest uses an onusa or haraegushi over the person who needs to be exorcised? Something like that.

Purification? So, an 'onusa' or 'haraegushi' has some kind of light magic?

I mean. . . maybe? The harae stems from the myth of the brother of the Sun goddess. . . Susano-o. But I honestly could not tell you.

That's alright, just knowing this much helps. And even if we don't have the things we need for a "traditional" exorcism, I think we can find another way to make it happen.

We can check for books to look over in the library...and think about other alternatives that can purify things too.

Do we know if it has to be something from Earth at all? I'm pretty sure Troit-san said she was doing something like that where she came from, but I don't think she came from anywhere on Earth I've ever heard of.

[ SHRUGS HER SHOULDERS ]

Hell if I know. I mean, if the monsters come from Earth myths, then it'd make sense that stuff from Earth might be the answer, but you know. It could also not be? Probably for the best that we don't make assumptions, but we can at least try any and all ideas.

I've tried looking for books about mythology or monsters in the library... But you can imagine how that went.

[Thoughtful pause.]

I could try and see if there's any luck with exorcisms or things like that, though.

Yeah, I kind of heard. That's why I ended up taking the medical books and morse code stuff instead.

I was mostly just looking around to see what kind of books they had. But, morse code for the ghosts, right? I was getting tired of just tapping without getting much of anywhere.

[If they both learn morse code maybe they can teach it to the ghosts. Anyway...]

For the exorcisms, I wonder if it's just the Barghest, or if it's each monster. But even if it's just the Barghest, we could probably ask around for more ideas, too.

[ Inaba nods in response to her question. ]

Yeah. It shouldn't be too hard to teach, and I'm pretty sure that I've already memorized it myself. Medical books, on the other hand...

[ ARE A PAIN IN THE FUCKING ASS TO MEMORIZE she's so tired ]

And I don't know... the Jorogumo's a Japanese monster, so it should be able to be exorcised? Maybe? That's something we'll have to figure out.

It would probably be easier if there were more of us studying together. Maybe... a study group?

[She's used to studying by herself but in the case of stuff like morse code or medical texts, come to think of it, the more of them are on it the better. So.]

It's probably better to focus on the one we have confirmed.

A study group would actually be pretty great. I don't think I'd be able to do it tonight, but maybe later...? I can also do one-on-one before curfew, I guess.
