WEEK 3

Week three opens like the other two weeks, but when you wake up, you know there's been a change in the area. At first, nothing is wrong - but when you look at any window, you aren't greeted with the cheery sight of the outside - instead, there's just a cold, harsh blackness. Trying to leave out the doors is impossible, too - if you try, you just find yourself back on the couches in the lobby. On top of that....The Staff are beginning to act even stranger, their glitching out becoming more obvious. Sometimes, they seemingly go blank mid sentence and walk away, as if they were reset, and slur or stutter their words.

The weather is...well, non-existent, except for the courtyard, which is still pleasantly snowy. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Another piece to the puzzle, one step closer to finding the truth of this place. Yet, it doesn't seem like you're any closer to solving this...

And time still ticks onwards, regardless if you're ready or not.

[Snake grunts, finally having got the pup to something close enough to sitting that he can congratulate him with a treat and a pet on the head.]

It needs meat to survive, you know. Can't make it go vegetarian.

I figured. But you don't have to use... meat like that, right? You can give it kibble or -- or dried meat, or something.

[It just is not great when they all have to flash back momentarily to Nanashi's intestinal tract every time they see the puppy get a snack or something. Sometimes you just really need to put your dog on a diet.

She drifts a little closer to watch the interaction, but still doesn't attempt to join or get within the puppy's range. Intellectually she knows the puppy probably can't do anything, but still.]

Works well enough. I've never been keen on those unhealthy dog treats to begin with.

[The puppy's attention starts to wander, and he sighs a little.]

Besides, I know meat works. I don't want to get too experimental with what it can and can't eat. I've got Szayel counting on me for this, you know.

Hmm. I would have thought Granz-san of all people would be okay with experimenting a little.

[They'd even experimented on the puppy, she heard, though it doesn't seem any worse for the wear and Szayel seems pretty fond of the little guy. Harmless experimentation might be the word of the day.]

More like I don’t want to deal with him if it goes wrong.

[Like, sure, undertake unapproved experiments on the puppy that’s the kid of the ghost with the sword. Good idea.]

I could always ask him, but it’s not exactly a priority.

It might be a good idea to figure out what Oreo Pinkerton-something-something can or can't eat, right? We should know as much about Barghests as we can.

[This puppy's name is a mess and she's going to go with what she remembers on the fly. Which probably means it's just going to shift depending on the day and the hour, but the Oreo is staying! That's the way the cookie crumbles.]

Besides, it's important to look at the diet for baby animals, I think?

[She's pretty sure. Some experimentation might be good for puppy nutrition.]

We're sticking with Duke.

You might have a point, though. [...] Might find something he's willing to sit for, too.

[She's very belatedly hiding her smile and a breath that may or may not have been a laugh behind her hand. She can't help it?? The grizzled dude just said Oreo-Pinkerton and even if it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing it still happened. Truly, puppies are magic even when they're horrorterrors.]

[She's still going to call it some variation of Duke Oreo Pinkerton the 25th or whatever it is today.]

I'm no good with training dogs, but... [she's also no good with Barghests] I can help think of different ideas. We have a library now, too.

[He ignores the giggling with a grunt, and then gives a nod.]

Best to pool our resources together. I’m no scientist, but this guy might be key to helping us understanding these things better.
