[CONTINUE + 4] Week 1 || act: investigate

[Everything is still, silent, and dark - just like it should be.

But there is still, undeniably...

a feeling of foreboding.

You know what this is.

One of your own...has perished.

At the hands of one of you.]

If it's the type of Narrators that I'm used to, they probably won't. Not when narration is such an important part of any story.

You're probably right, but I will say this:

[he looks at each of the party in turn]

I know in my "game" there was a big twist because some information was hidden even from the player. If a story is what they want, sometimes you gotta kick down the conventions, right?

Of course I'm probably just insane and talking to thin air. But it's something to think about.

We talked about something like an analogue game where everyone has to be there on schedule, right?

So if this is really a "game" to them, shouldn't they be trying to win with us, too?

The question is whether "winning" means the same thing to them as it does to us.

But either way, we can probably assume they're hearing us discuss all this right now. Or "seeing" it, I suppose. So they're probably already considering whether it's possible.

There's exceptions, but I think... most gamers want to get the most out of their games! So if they only get one try, they probably want to get the "best end" since that has the most content!

Plus... we've been really good at solving all of the cases, haven't we? So maybe if they're seeing this, they'll help us out!
oceanicbutterfly: ([k] Hm...)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2020-09-11 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true. We've been doing well on our own, it should be fine for them to help us once. Especially since for them it would be frustrating to get so far and then lose.

We've got to be getting close to the big finale. No one wants to game over before you get there!
oceanicbutterfly: ([k] Well um...)

This does seem a bit like the Entity is a "final boss" or--
justonezero: (I'm not there)

[personal profile] justonezero 2020-09-11 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Something trying to end the universe is totally a final boss scenario.
oceanicbutterfly: ([k] This is serious)

I just thought of something else, but we shouldn't discuss it here.

[Agreed.]

Next time, then.

The trick is figuring out what the overarching 'rules' are.

[He makes a displeased noise with what he said next]

Knox's Decalogue and Van Dine's Commandments are often held as gold standards for fair play mysteries. However, it doesn't mean you can't make a solvable mystery if you violate them - You just need to understand why the rules exist, or what you are doing.
