thefoundation | RECORDING 9: THE THIRD TRIAL.

The worst has happened... and now you're all here, in the living room where all the trials so far have taken place. As all of you enter, the Vessel is there - Jack, looking expectant and as militaristic as ever.

On one of the tables away from the center is a small enclosed box entitled 'VOTES', with slips of paper nearby and a pen. It's sufficiently away from what will be the 'main' action, but not enough to really give anyone complete privacy as they vote.

Once everyone is inside, the doors automatically shut and lock themselves, leaving you trapped in here with the Vessel...and each other.

One of you is a murderer...however, in this game, the guilty do not need to be voted out. As long as there are enough people voted out that matches the victims...then it will be accepted.

...But, can you really let someone get away with murder...?

The choice is up to you.

But this time...potentially, someone innocent...must die as well.

He's got a scrape on his left cheek that is recently scabbed over. ]

...I cut myself shaving before trial.

[ Someone sure hasn't been himself since he's seen Haku's body. ]

You had some run-ins with the authorities before, right? So I'm sure you know how persistent we can be.

[That's actually said rather conversationally, although his brows furrow a bit when he sees the scrape.]

[ The persistence comment earns Date a flicker of a very sharp-teethed grin, but it doesn't last for more than a second. ]

I didn't think someone like Haku could be killed here. It's making this place more worrisome than I thought possible, even for a fighter of my caliber.

[Okay, so the shark teeth was not just his imagination. This is a salient fact, surely.]

He was that good, huh. I know he could freeze things, but I didn't realize he was held in that esteem.

He was excellent.

Even among elite ninja, Haku was special. He has what is known as a kekkai genkei, a blood limit ability. Hereditary skills that are impossible to learn. Normal ninja can't use ice.

Beyond his kekkai genkei, he was skilled and speedy. There's no way he'd go down easy.

Sounds like you know him pretty well. How many run-ins have you had with him?

[ There's a notable pause here. ]

Notable ninja are registered in a bingo book passed out by villages to other high ranking ninja. I'm more informed on him from there. We fought only once.

A bingo book... why do that? Doesn't that just run the risk of leaking secrets about your ninja techniques?

The secrets behind a jutsu's workings are better kept than just knowing about it.

Like how? You need someone to teach it to you?

Or you need to rip it from their dead body. A very popular way of doing it.

[ He's starting to sound very seriously annoyed.

But fine, look at his hands. They're rough and calloused and just generally big and not pretty. They've never been pretty.

He'd be wearing arm protectors in his canon outfit, but he's not wearing any right now, foundation uniform and all.]
