TRIAL

The morning seemed so far away yesterday - yet, it also seems too soon when morning comes and you are all yet again ushered to the third floor by The Lady. The Captain is there, in all of his....glory? It's hard to tell.

The doors close, and he speaks up, this time reclining on one of the couches in the room.

"You know the drill - Since one of you have died during the game, it's your responsibility to try and vote someone out. You have six hours to talk about it, but then-"

He taps on a box on the coffee table in front of him, labeled 'VOTES'.

"-you'll have to put in your vote so someone can be punished. You all saw what happens when you refuse to play, right?"

He leans back, placing his hands behind his head.

"So get to it."

As he says that, music begins to play in the room...

It is strange. But didn't he say that he'd been playing...craftmine with Yoshi or something?

[Not saying it isn't him, but. Y'know, consider all realms of possibility.]

Possibly but I don't know how that makes it less... obviously strange?

He has an alibi. [A pause.] But, then again, we can't actually confirm whether or not it's true.

I think I would notice less if not for his obvious shift in attitude once it became apparent the puppy would be of no help to us.

...That's fair. It's something to keep in mind, but different people react differently to situations.

No, I think we should focus on this.

His answer was "because it popped through a wall." But we've been aware of the presence of ghosts nearly from the start.

That's not shocking, even for me. And others can confirm my weakness is ghosts.

I can confirm, I've seen Makoto's reaction to what she assumed to be a ghost.

Once she clung to my leg for five minutes because she thought one of our other friends was a ghost wandering a dark hallway.

[ he shakes his head, looking dejected. obviously, makoto's distrust in him has hurt his feelings ] No. I just continued until I fell asleep on the keyboard.

Do you know what time it was when you fell asleep?

[Obviously he could be lying, but...it seems...worth...asking]

I thought it might have come here to eat us, too! Then it fell asleep so I obviously thought 'oh, the dog's not gonna feast on our insides too' and relaxed a little!

But that's not what you said to me earlier.

But it's what followed! It pops out through the wall and I'm shocked because I thought we would be safe here. Then I think "oh my god!!! we're going to be eaten!" And then Atsushi tells it to find the other dog so I think "Well, this might not be so bad" but THEN the dog starts running like crazy and I think "OH MY GOD WE'RE REALLY GONNA BE EATEN" and then it falls asleep so I relax!

[ he takes a deep breath because yes he said that all with one breath ]

Isn't that a normal way to think? I know I'm strange but-- isn't that normal, at least?

That's not what I thought. I also don't understand why you would obsess over that being "normal" to the rest of us, rather than normal for you?

Because that's...one of my biggest problems back at home. [ he seems to shrink a little in his shoulders. ] I've always reacted differently from normal humans and mages and was treated well...
