RECORDING 6: THE SECOND TRIAL.

The worst has happened... and now you're all here, in the living room where you first met Todd. As all of you enter, the Vessel is there - Olympia, staring balefully at you in all of her robotic glory.

On one of the tables away from the center is a small enclosed box entitled 'VOTES', with slips of paper nearby and a pen. It's sufficiently away from what will be the 'main' action, but not enough to really give anyone complete privacy as they vote.

Once everyone is inside, the doors automatically shut and lock themselves, leaving you trapped in here with the Vessel...and each other.

One of you is a murderer...however, in this game, the guilty do not need to be voted out. As long as there are enough people voted out that matches the victims...then it will be accepted.

...But, can you really let someone get away with murder...?

The choice...is up to you.

[ Could any trace of magic be sensed from this? In addition, would his current status as a Caster afford him any additional foresight as to the nature/properties of the symbol if it so happened to be magical in nature? And lately, would he be able to find it recognizable? ]

[There is definitely traces of magic on this paper! In addition, he'll be able to work out that this is made to Call on/draw on something, but due to it being an entirely different magic system than he's used to, there's not much more he can tell.]

It appears that this symbol contains traces of magic. It seems to have been used to call on or draw on something, though I've no idea what it could be as it is unfamiliar with any magic system that I know of.

[ And ... honestly, that's almost an incredible feat in of itself if not for the fact other worlds exist. ]

So whoever did this is someone who can use circles like that as a conduit?

If we go by what King Gilgamesh says, then that may be the case. Maybe it's to be used as a sort of catalyst to speed up or strengthen the reaction.

Indeed. This could also mean that in order to use magic at all, they may require to draw upon a piece of paper such symbols rather than freely at all. And it could take longer than a normal spell, making it a bit more ritualistic than simply casting as is.

In essence, the culprit is likely to be a mage or has a mage as an accomplice.

I don't think we have magic that requires circles like this in my world - but magic isn't really my area of expertise, either.

[Maybe higher level mages used it??? But they were always happy to fire off their spells at her in an instant, so hm.]

Hmph, and what will that entail?

Can you go around and see just how many of us here ping your magic sensor? It might be too much to hope you find an exact match for whatever type you found on the paper, but just narrowing down how many of us can use magic should help.

[ Gilgamesh will casually take a glance around the room. He was generally seeing who would register as a 'ping' for magic. Though, to be more exact here, he was looking to see if not only were there traces of magic coming from people, but if those traces would match up to the very same ones he found on the paper. ]

I'm truly surprised that they would have left something so instrumental lying around. I suppose this wouldn't be usable by anyone else, though?

Still, we have an incinerator. Unless there's some reason setting it on fire would be dangerous, it seems like a fairly big slip-up, especially after the... plumbing debacle from last week.

The other possibility I can think of is that they thought we wouldn't check the garbage can, but that seems faulty as well unless they thought we were all that dense. Or averse to getting our hands dirty.

[ So yeah that doesn't seem likely to him, but gotta consider everything. ]

Ah, then you're throwing in for the accidental death side of this? I wonder. It would require a lot of assumptions.

It's reasonably likely. There's a few other possibilities, like the culprit believing we were inept or unwilling to rummage through garbage but that likewise makes a lot of assumptions considering last trial.

Hmph, they likely hadn't time to properly dispose of it, and do not even know a proper way of let us say, casting a fire to the paper.

That said, I don't think it can be usable as it is.

They had the time to shower, to bury the body, and very likely to get a change of clothes -- that's what was required of the two investigating the greenhouse, correct? They had time and means, which gives weight to the possibility that they simply chose not to, or that it has something to do with the magic itself.

[A shrug! He's not the magic sniffer here.]

That's too bad, though. It would be a lot simpler if the spell itself could be reconstructed.
