RECORDING 3: THE FIRST TRIAL

The worst has happened... and now you're all here, in the living room where you first met Todd. As all of you enter, the Vessel is there - glowering at all of you, still missing the arm Dazai shorn from him with his touch.

On one of the tables away from the center is a small enclosed box entitled 'VOTES', with slips of paper nearby and a pen. It's sufficiently away from what will be the 'main' action, but not enough to really give anyone complete privacy as they vote.

Once everyone is inside, the doors automatically shut and lock themselves, leaving you trapped in here with the Vessel...and each other.

One of you is a murderer...however, in this game, the guilty do not need to be voted out. As long as there are enough people voted out that matches the victims...then it will be accepted.

...But, can you really let someone get away with murder...?

The choice...is up to you.

Sho, did you investigate the body or the foot prints at any time?

Factor yeah I did. Had to see what all the noise was about. Tried to avoid the oil, but there was a zetta ton.

[He does a deeper sniff- is it light enough to suggest it was just a light step or deeper due to soaking in it?]

[If someone else was executed and his suspicions were right, could he live with it? He's not sure. And Olympia... she must deserve better than keeping secrets.]

[The pets stop and she glares at Sho. Clearing her throat, she'll speak up:]

Old trick...?

You see it all the time in mystery novels - 'Someone overly suspicious'. It can be a trap depending on how familiar you are with the genre, or read a lot of them in general. A first time reader would say that they're clearly guilty of whatever they're suspected of, because they haven't had enough experience to see other tricks in other stories.

But an experienced reader could potentially overthink it, and then go 'he's too suspicious, there's no way it's him.'

...Of course, that's just for mystery novels. But...We've got a lot of people experienced in investigation, right?

[He listens attentively as Battler explains]

Oh! It's a bit like discerning if an enemy's movements is signs of an ambush or trap... under and overthinking it would be disastrous either way.
