RECORDING 3: THE FIRST TRIAL

The worst has happened... and now you're all here, in the living room where you first met Todd. As all of you enter, the Vessel is there - glowering at all of you, still missing the arm Dazai shorn from him with his touch.

On one of the tables away from the center is a small enclosed box entitled 'VOTES', with slips of paper nearby and a pen. It's sufficiently away from what will be the 'main' action, but not enough to really give anyone complete privacy as they vote.

Once everyone is inside, the doors automatically shut and lock themselves, leaving you trapped in here with the Vessel...and each other.

One of you is a murderer...however, in this game, the guilty do not need to be voted out. As long as there are enough people voted out that matches the victims...then it will be accepted.

...But, can you really let someone get away with murder...?

The choice...is up to you.

VICTIM: OLYMPIA
PEOPLE TO VOTE OUT: 1

WEEK 1 VOTING

[???

P-petting him? Are you okay, kitty?
]

You don't know?
ghostricked: (Old Mr. Johnson had problems of his own)

[He's not, his fur is almost unpleasant to pet due to it wanting to stand stiff]

...

[If someone else was executed and his suspicions were right, could he live with it? He's not sure. And Olympia... she must deserve better than keeping secrets.]

Sho's boots smell like oil. A lot of oil.

[He's so sorry]

[The pets stop and she glares at Sho. Clearing her throat, she'll speak up:]

Mr. Minamimoto's boots smell like oil. A lot of it.

[god.

she sounds SO TIRED.]

[..............Fuck.]

...So it really was that old trick, huh...?
zweivoltage: (What is this...?)

[personal profile] zweivoltage 2020-04-18 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Old trick...?
boardreversal: (Let me explain you a thing)

[personal profile] boardreversal 2020-04-18 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You see it all the time in mystery novels - 'Someone overly suspicious'. It can be a trap depending on how familiar you are with the genre, or read a lot of them in general. A first time reader would say that they're clearly guilty of whatever they're suspected of, because they haven't had enough experience to see other tricks in other stories.

But an experienced reader could potentially overthink it, and then go 'he's too suspicious, there's no way it's him.'

...Of course, that's just for mystery novels. But...We've got a lot of people experienced in investigation, right?
zweivoltage: (A determined heart wins.)

[He listens attentively as Battler explains]

Oh! It's a bit like discerning if an enemy's movements is signs of an ambush or trap... under and overthinking it would be disastrous either way.
boardreversal: (stare off into the distance)

[personal profile] boardreversal 2020-04-18 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Zhuge Liang once made an entire army turn back just because they freaked out that he was calmly playing his instrument at the gates of the city he was defending, even though the city was actually undefended.

If they'd gone ahead, they could have sacked the town...but because they expected him to have a trap waiting, they psyched themselves out and decided to retreat.
zweivoltage: (Stop messing around.)

[personal profile] zweivoltage 2020-04-18 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard of a pre-crusade war tactic where they created fake military equipment to inflate their numbers and distract the enemy from the real forces.

So... it seems like this is a similar kind of trick.
tangentlion: (fang earrings??)

[personal profile] tangentlion 2020-04-18 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I use oil to get that zetta nice dirty sheen on them. And?
finalring: (pic#13816391)

[personal profile] finalring 2020-04-18 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would you purposely dirty your own clothes unless you were trying to distract us from other things, Sho?
tangentlion: (ATTENTION ALL TASTELESS TETRAHEDRA!)

[personal profile] tangentlion 2020-04-18 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I've done it since I was in my early double digits. Industrial chic is hella aesthetic.

[personal profile] tsunderine 2020-04-18 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to interrupt, but if you're saying that you've been doing it for a while now, wouldn't that mean Sissel would have smelled it earlier this week?

tangentlion: (there won't BE a next time!)

[personal profile] tangentlion 2020-04-18 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe he did! But do you think he's up for answering right now? You gonna turn the pressure up on that little cat? Are you that heartless?
tsunderine: (pic#13924660)

[personal profile] tsunderine 2020-04-18 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right, I'm heartless.

Besides... wouldn't it be better for you if he said that 'yes, he did smell like oil throughout the week'? I'm only helping to see if you can prove your innocence or not. Unless you're a scaredy cat of having the truth revealed for everyone to hear?

He's strong. Strong, and much, much kinder than you.

Don't you dare use that kindness to defend yourself.
boardreversal: (That's bullshit)

[personal profile] boardreversal 2020-04-18 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
...Aren't you the heartless one here?

It sounds more like you're trying to shield yourself behind the cat. Badly.

Cowardly knave.

What about the rest of your clothes?
tangentlion: (CRUNCH! I'll add it to the heap.)

[personal profile] tangentlion 2020-04-18 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I work with a lot of industrial items in my art.
