Week 2 Mingle

WEEK 2

With the nature of this 'game' out, the resort might not look so welcoming anymore. The staff are still ready to jump in and serve guests in any way they can, provided a request doesn't make them short-circuit, and the resort itself seems as warm and cheery as usual. But everyone knows the truth now. This resort is hiding some pretty big secrets, and it's only a matter of time before someone else turns up dead.

The weather is holding steady, at 'cold but still safe for outdoor activities'. The temperature seems to be dipping lower each day, though, and the previously-blue sky is starting to stay grey more often than not. Could that signal an approaching snowstorm? Who know. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Another piece to the puzzle, one step closer to finding the truth of this place. But it might not be enough to put everything together yet, that might take some more time.

Most importantly, everyone needs to get to know each other. This 'game' is one of 'know your enemies', and your very survival depends on knowing when someone is acting odd.

You guys trying to signal for help? Or are you just doing this for the fun of it?

[He got curious, so he's here.]

Mostly the former.

[The corners of Ripley's mouth twitch upwards.] But why not a bit of both?

Both is good, I think. With everything that's going on, a little fun around here couldn't hurt.

[He puts a hand on his hip.]

So, how'd you learn to make these?

Take some sugar and potassium nitrate, mix it together and heat it up. Then, just shove it in a sleeve of some sort and just light it on fire.

[She picks up a stick and pokes one of the flares with it.]

Me and my college friends got bored one day and wanted to see if this thing we saw on the Internet actually worked. Turns out it did. We almost lit a professor's car on fire.

That's it? For some reason I was expecting it to be more complicated.

[Seems way too easy? But if it's true, it's true.]

His car? [Ha!] My friends and I were never brave enough to do that sort of thing. Closest we ever came to it was mentos and coke.

....Broke a window when we did that little experiment.

Surprising what chemicals can do, right? [A smile pulls on the corners of her mouth.]

Well, that's what happens when you get drunk six engineering majors in a room together with access to dangerous chemicals and a computer. Pretty sure we would've gotten expelled if it weren't for the fact that the professor was pretty chill.

You're a meteorologist, right? What's that like?

Very surprising indeed. [You learn something new everyday]

Think of a weatherman, but not on TV. And in the freezing cold of Antarctica.

Sounds like fun.

[Ripley snorts.]

"Hey, Bennings, what's the weather like today?" "Oh, you know, chilly and snowy as always."
