WEEK 2

With the nature of this 'game' out, the resort might not look so welcoming anymore. The staff are still ready to jump in and serve guests in any way they can, provided a request doesn't make them short-circuit, and the resort itself seems as warm and cheery as usual. But everyone knows the truth now. This resort is hiding some pretty big secrets, and it's only a matter of time before someone else turns up dead.

The weather is holding steady, at 'cold but still safe for outdoor activities'. The temperature seems to be dipping lower each day, though, and the previously-blue sky is starting to stay grey more often than not. Could that signal an approaching snowstorm? Who know. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Another piece to the puzzle, one step closer to finding the truth of this place. But it might not be enough to put everything together yet, that might take some more time.

Most importantly, everyone needs to get to know each other. This 'game' is one of 'know your enemies', and your very survival depends on knowing when someone is acting odd.

I do feel a lot more comfortable -- a bit like changing into your comfy clothes after a long day!

I listened in on your meeting, I hope you don't mind -- the idea of new bodies explains why I was able to interact with you all as a living person.

[Poor Appy-kun probably needs like five ghost Advils. Are they going to prescribe him some.]

... That's right, you wouldn't really have been a ghost then, huh? So that means you actually did die -- again?

[Maybe that's part of why he's taking this so well. It's a strange twist of fate that the dead are accepting their lot so well, too.]

Are you mad at the Jorogumo?

I suppose you could put it that way... but as far as I'm concerned, no one is truly dead until their soul is destroyed.

I am not. I'm sure it was just doing what came naturally to it.

So that means, as long as you're all ghosts here, then you aren't really dead. To you.

[They're pretty damn dead from her point of view, but she's willing to give him leeway on this one. He's the incorporeal supernatural phenomenon currently supernaturaling a hamburger and stuff.]

There's one thing I didn't understand, when we investigated everything. What happened to your sword? Did the Jorogumo do something to it?

No. Of course, it doesn't make death any less traumatizing. But it is far from the end.

Haha! No, no. That's just another of those "Arrancar" things. Perhaps when all of this is over, I will have time to explain it. If you care to listen, then.

It... sounded pretty traumatizing.

[She is kind of glad she did not see that corpse. Two are enough for a weekend and change even barring the involvement of possible gigantic venomous spider women.]

But I guess you guys, uh, ghosts, have a lot of time on your hands. If we make it through all of this, sure. I'll listen.

Mine? It wasn't so bad. But I'm not sure how much I can say before this device scrambles so I'll just leave it at that.

Time is all we have.

They really are censoring you guys, aren't they? Do they have ways of doing that, even when you're not typing?

Mm, yes. Even if I try to handwrite it or use bloody morse code. It's very frustrating.

Indeed. It just turns to gibberish, or blobs, no matter what we try.

I don't know if I should call that magic, or -- or just the Resort being the Resort.

[It's probably both. The more strange things she's seeing here, the less she can really find a good frame of reference for everything.]

Come to think of it, besides eating, and typing, and floating around, what else can you ghosts do?

Well, we can pretty much interact with any objects that we like. I think the only thing we can't do it go beyond the courtyard.

[What good is time dilation if you can't use it to extend your gaming binge or fix murders. These are what the people want!!]

... What happens if you try to go beyond the courtyard?

There's just nothing there. Look out the windows. What do you see?

Snow, and the mountain. Is this like when we tried to go farther out, and all of us ended up sleeping on the couch like we were teleported there?

[resortghosts]

All I, and my ghostly compatriots, see when we look outside is pure blackness. It's like the world just ends -- it's likely why we can't leave.

... What?

[Jeez, that gave her an outright chill down her spine and it wasn't even about the ghost. Of course she knew this resort wasn't normal, but knowing that and having it lovingly described in creepypasta detail is totally different.]

What are you saying? The place outside this building is-- [pause] Why would we be seeing different things?

My running hypothesis is that the snowy area the living see and can interact with is some sort of illusion, one that they don't bother keeping up for those of us on the spirit plane.

I guess, if the resort really is alive, then the body would be the most important part.

[She's thought this a lot recently but what kinds of things is she saying with her mouth these days.]

But why bother to have the illusion at all?

Mmm. I suspect it's to try and trick the guests into thinking it's the real deal. Camouflage, as it were.

It's not very useful, is it? I mean, we're all trapped in here anyway, since we can't get very far away before we're dragged back.

[There's a brief moment of thought, going back over everything.]

... Unless the resort was different enough before, that people were willing to stay here for a period of time like they told us? I wonder.
