Week 4

It finally happened. Someone murdered, and was punished for it. After a particularly grueling trial, one much worse than the games ever were, everyone definitely needed the rest of the weekend to rest up. But now it is Monday once more, and that means it is time to get back to 'work'.

The cameras have moved again, and the contestants will need to be careful where they say what until their new locations have been revealed. In addition to that, the house itself seems to have changed, with its usual colorful appearance suddenly a bit more grey. Even the weather seems to be gloomy, with those storm clouds from last week starting to overcast the area, threatening to drop rain.

Seventeen contestants remain in this game of death. How many more will fall before the game is over? And how many more will be driven to murder?

[ munching on a sandwich ]

I've demonstrated most of my abilities already. Through my pendant, I can use a form of water magic that has a variety of applications--minor healing, soothing people to sleep, et cetera. It takes much more out of me, but I'm also able to dispel curses and perform exorcisms, provided the target is demonic or unearthly in nature.

I can use water magic in combat as well, but I'll be terribly honest, I'm not very good at it. The most I've done is make waves to knock people over.

[ a pause ]

Ah, that's right. I'd almost forgotten. The members of my family are also able to use Dragon Veins. They're sort of...ley-lines that exist within the ground at random places where spiritual energy is higher. I can call them forth wherever I find them. They're usually of the elemental variety.

Elemental variety? In what way?

[She doesn't even know what a ley-line is either so RIP.]

Fire, water, wind, and earth. Any of the Veins I tap into will be one of those. Let me think of an example...

Say that you find a fire Vein, and it's located underneath a river. When you activate it, because it's a fire Vein, it dries up the river.

But they can be complimentary as well. The other day, with the house, I found an earth Vein. So I used it to push the earth below the garage up, so it could come to ground-level.

[ Azura leans in closer to Saki ]

...we use dragons of legend to channel some of this power. Our dragon beast representing earth Veins is Byakko, incidentally.

So that's what you did...

[Interesting. She has cantus of course, but it's useless unless she knows what she needs to visualize.

As Azura leans close, she leans in too, out of instinct.

-Byakko? Really?

Mmm. Suzaku the Vermilion Bird is channeled through fire Veins. Genbu the Black Tortoise for water Veins. Seiryu the Azure Dragon for wind Veins.

And Byakko the White Tiger for earth Veins. I'm not sure how his being both a tiger and a dragon are reconciled, you'd have to ask a sage or a historian about that. But we do call upon his power when changing the earth.

I see...

I wonder why that seems to be part of multiple worlds...?

[Like... it's one thing for similar mythos from branching timelines of the same world, but the same spirit across different ones?]

I've been thinking about that, too. The country I grew up in, Hoshido, it has many parallels with the country of this world called 'Japan', eerily so. It's as if they're one and the same.

[ hahahahahahahahahaha ]

So it would stand to reason that Hoshido's dragons of legend would be in this world as well. Although, it only seems to be the four. I haven't seen any reference to our other dragons.

I wonder if the origins of all the worlds really is the same...

[Maybe Azura's is just a particularly unique branch??]
