Week 3 Mingle

The last week has brought the first spilled blood. Three of the contestants are gone, with the promise of more to fall soon. The atmosphere around the house will start to get heavy around Wednesday, which is when the first game of the week is. It's almost like the house knows something is up...

The conspiracy is beginning to unravel. Dazai isn't Dazai, and the cracks are forming in his act. But that act must be held up, or the Foundation will be brought in to take control of the game. Now everyone must play the part and act like everything is normal, at least on camera. That stress of always performing is bound to make someone crack eventually.

Once again, the cameras and microphones change. The contestants will have to search out new spots for their secret conversations. Even one wrong step, one wrong word, and it's all over for this group. Everyone is watching, and they need to play their roles.

They better keep an eye out too, because storm clouds are starting to loom over the area, both figuratively and literally.

I think pyres are supposed to be bigger.

[ he rips some pages from a book, tossing them into the fire. ]

Then..a bonfire? But there are no marshmallows.

I think if you ask the house they’ll give you some.

Yes, I asked for some yesterday. [ brb.

coming back with a bag of marshmallows and a blanket. ]

May I ask why you're burning your possessions?

[odasaku]

[ oda is actually mildly prepared for this. he takes a stick nearby him, and hands it to alcor. ]

You put the marshmallow at the end of the stick, and that way you can control it from far away.

[ he looks down at the fire, watching the things inside blacken and turn to ash. ]

I don’t think I’ll need them anymore.

[visionem]

Ah, I see. [ ty for being a good teammate oda. Taking the stick and adding a marshmallow he will actually try to do this the human way, aka not levitating it into the fire. The bag is placed between them if Oda wants to join in on the fun. ]

I do not have any possession myself, at least typically. The photos I received I burned as well, so I understand.

[odasaku]

[ oda nods when alcor places the marshmallow bag between them. he takes one of them, putting it on the end his stick before putting it back into the fire. ]

You’ve never had anything? That’s strange.

[visionem]

Is it? I am not human, so I have no use for them.

[ Like remarking on the weather. ]

[odasaku]

That’s true...

[ he looks at the things burning, his expression a bit more troubled. ]

I burned these because I don’t deserve them. I’ve lost my right.

[ he takes a book from a small pile next to him, ripping up some pages to feed to the fire. ]

[visionem]

Oh? You are casting judgement on yourself, Sakunosuke Oda?

[odasaku]

Everyone will cast their own judgement on me anyways, if they haven’t already. I almost shot someone they all want to protect.

[ not that... he looks like he regrets it in any way, actually. ]

But my own judgement is different. I was unable to live to the expectations that people had for me. I tried hard to live up to them, but it was for naught.

[visionem]

...not everyone. [ Looking at Oda directly as he says this. ]

Our situations are different, but I feel similarly.

[odasaku]

[ oda looks up to alcor, eyes slightly widened in surprise. ]

What do you mean..?

[visionem]

Biases are natural to humans. But it is far too easy for them to become rampant, uncontrollable growths.

[ If Oda meant the latter, he's going to have to clarify. ]

[odasaku]

So because you’re not human, you can see things impartially. Is that what you mean?

[ he won’t clarify. to be quite honest, he’s just going with the flow of the conversation. ]

[visionem]

That is...how I am supposed to function, yes.

[odasaku]

How you’re supposed to function and how you actually function are two totally different things.

[ he pulls out the marshmallow from the fire, letting it cool down ]

[visionem]

They are. [ Pulling his own off with a sad smile. ] And that is why I am broken.

[odasaku]

Broken...

[ he glances at alcor, and then back at his marshmallow. ]

What made you change? What “broke” you?

[visionem]

Mankind.

I was broken from the moment I gave you fire and language. But it took me thousands of years to realize it.

[odasaku]

Ah... like Prometheus in the Greek mythology.

[ he’s read it, of course. ]

In the myth, he defied the gods and was punished for it, by having his liver eaten by an eagle every day. [ he pokes at the fire with his stick. ] Did you ever regret it?

[visionem]

I came before his myth was struck to stone, but yes.

[ Sometimes you need to micdrop that you are really this old smh. ]

For a long time I anguished over it. But no, I did not regret it. I do not, to this day.

[odasaku]

Wow.

[ it’s said flatly, but oda means it. wow he’s old. ]

If you don’t regret it... then do you think it was worth it?

[visionem]

Yes, of course.

[ Eating the marshmallow, his smile is as sweet as the sugar on his tongue. ]

Humanity is beautiful to watch and observe. You never cease to surprise me.
