Week 3 Mingle

The last week has brought the first spilled blood. Three of the contestants are gone, with the promise of more to fall soon. The atmosphere around the house will start to get heavy around Wednesday, which is when the first game of the week is. It's almost like the house knows something is up...

The conspiracy is beginning to unravel. Dazai isn't Dazai, and the cracks are forming in his act. But that act must be held up, or the Foundation will be brought in to take control of the game. Now everyone must play the part and act like everything is normal, at least on camera. That stress of always performing is bound to make someone crack eventually.

Once again, the cameras and microphones change. The contestants will have to search out new spots for their secret conversations. Even one wrong step, one wrong word, and it's all over for this group. Everyone is watching, and they need to play their roles.

They better keep an eye out too, because storm clouds are starting to loom over the area, both figuratively and literally.

[ Well, given that Inaba is kind of practically holing herself up in here for most of the day, if not all of it she'll just glance at Karen to acknowledge at least the fact that hey, she exists, she supposes. ]

[ While under normal circumstances she'd be happy that she's being appreciated this much, she honestly isn't in the right shape of mind to actually. . . feel that way.

Not when her life is at risk yet again. ]

[Saki will walk in to check on them eventually.]

[ Her voice is a little small, but at least she seems... better? She's not crying, although her eyes are definitely poofy and red. ]

[Karen seems to have calmed down a little, too. But also this is now two people in front of her who are on the list.]

[She'll go ahead and sit herself down on the mattresses, crossing her legs and releasing a soft breath.]

I hope neither of you are considering it.

I. . . can't say that I'm not.

[ She didn't hear any of the conversations from earlier because she immediately left before them. ]

I'd be lying if I did. I promised that I would protect him at any cost and that promise hasn't changed, even now. I will protect him, even if I'm not by his side. Even if the phrasing was 'one by one', the fact that so many people are at risk to begin with--

It's possible someone might do it simply as a heroic act. It would definitely put us in a better light, but it really doesn't matter because this whole show is internal to begin with. [ Basically what she's trying to say is that if they do murder, the Foundation can show the world an edited video that makes them look bad. ] Besides, the whole thing doesn't make any sense. They know that with a shinigami, we can just be put into new bodies, but what's the point, then?

. . . Unless that is the point.

[Karen concerningly doesn't respond to Saki, but looks up sharply at the end of that.]

[So much concern.]

What do you mean?

They can make us look more 'abnormal' this way, if nobody dies.

If they kill someone and they just come back, it's easy to twist a tale like that.

"Oh, see? We should get rid of them entirely, everyone: they just don't stay dead unless we get rid of those pesky shinigamis!"

. . . something like that. Although they could have done that to begin with.

Or "see, it's fine to kill them all, we can just bring back the good ones later, when we get around to it."

[She tips her head down in thought.]

The past two weeks were already bluffs, weren't they?

It's not too far-fetched to assume this motive is too, one way or another.

We don't know that for last week, Saki. Nobody took the bait, so we just won't know the answer.

It could be a bluff. Or maybe it isn't. We can't just assume one way or another solely based on the first one being a bluff or else we're going to shoot ourselves in the foot.

There are some things that I'm thinking about, but. . .

Either way, this is a more dangerous motive. Instead of an offer, it's a threat, and it'll probably be more effective against people who resisted temptation before.

[will this be the week someone gives in]

From the start, all of these motives are just traps to try to get us to act the way they want.

[She sounds bitter as she speaks, but what else is new?]

-Then, what do you think he meant by "one-by-one?" That isn't an exact time frame.

Yeah, that much is true. But I don't think this motive is just for us.

[ It's probably for them, too. On the outside. ]

The time frame for one by one can be one killed every second, every hour, every day, every week, etcetera. I should mention that it reminds me a bit of the game at the Hotel— when people were executed during that lightning round, it was one by one and it was just within a short span of time.

I'm--

[ She's terrified, really, but her voice drops itself with a shake of her head. ]

It's a scary thought.

[...oops now Karen is back to being really scared again.]

It... really just means they won't all be killed at the same time. Which might be an indication that they haven't been rounded up or anything.

[There! That's comforting! Slightly. Now let's ruin it.]

Or it could be that after each person they're going to give us opportunities to kill each other and make it stop.

[Her frown deepens at the thought, but she shakes her head lightly nonetheless.]

It's vague, but it might be an opening. There have been other rules we could slip past because of it before.

[Maybe... maybe this is another case of that. She wants to hope, at least. Otherwise she knows she's going to lose it.]

Besides, a lot of us have loved ones here, too. I don't think they would kill us that quickly. We still have to put on a show to keep this SCP contained.

They want us to panic. [And they're doing a fine job of it.] Don't act hastily.

[ "Other rules we could slip past-"

Yeah, no kidding. She managed to survive because of a loophole, after all. ]

Maybe. But in that case. . . there's also several of us that have a lot of people that we care about outside of here. Like myself, for instance. Or Karen. Or Ellie. Hell, even Moriarty. Us four are probably the ones most at risk because we have more people that we care about outside of here.

[ Which is bad. ]

Plus. . . they'd have a good enough reason to kill him, even without the motive.

[ Her frown deepens, just a little. ]

Because of a single, three digit number.

[You know who has bad timing? Atsushi does.

He walks in just as Inaba is speaking, and he's able to catch the tail end of what she's saying.

....'Him' huh?]

...Because of how dangerous he is?

[They both are.]

[ . . . Oh.

She didn't think that he would actually show up in the midst of this conversation and it's enough for her to frown. Honestly, she wants to backtrack but that'd be ignoring the truth. ]

Yeah.

And because he's a potential danger and threat, they have every right to--
