Welcome to ~~Rokkenjima~~. This island may just be a copy in the middle of reformation, but the Witch extends her greetings all the same. Please, relax.

This game is just a trial run, but please do not think you can sleep through this. The Witch fully intends to put the system through its paces, so please put up a good fight.

The difficulty level depends on you. Think deeply on your moves during this short play time.

You wake with a start - even if you don't remember falling asleep in the first place - and find yourself standing on the dock of what looks like an island. There's a noise behind you - and if you turn to look, you'll see a plain white boat taking off and leaving you all behind, not stopping for a second if you try to flag them down or scream at them.

It doesn't look like you can swim to shore, either - there's nothing but sea in all directions, and something tells you trying to swim out will end up badly. However, a small dip, if you were so inclined, would be fine. It's not like the weather is bad for it - it feels like it's summer, despite whatever it was when you laid eyes on the envelope.

...Speaking of, Every last one of you have an envelope in your hands, with a gold letter 'L' on it. It's the same letter you were reading before you 'woke' up here, after all. More than that, those of you who had supernatural or magical abilities will feel...strange, as if your abilities are being forcibly blocked. Try as you might, you just can't use them - though all of your physical abilities are intact, of course.

If you decide to head up the path, you'll find Goat....men? waiting for you near the doors to the mansion. Despite their bright red eyes, they merely bow politely and wordlessly bring you into the mansion, showing you your rooms and then stating that they will prepare food for you or anything else you should need whenever you want, in surprisingly deep voices.

As they leave, you can't help but wonder...

I see your point. [He sets the coin next to his plate.] But how are you planning to bring back the dead like that? Just because you can will things into happening doesn't mean that explains anything.

You're exactly right! I can't revive the dead. That's why I said all of you will be safe and sound at the end, you know?

[She sighs, taking a drink.]

All of you hear 'murder mystery' and 'killing' and think that you'll end up dead forever - maaan, I should have expected it from humans, but that's sooo unimaginative...

[Bruno frowns. He knows for a fact that dead people are perfectly capable of returning as ghosts, spirits, vampires, or zombies, but that's beside the point.]

What, so you're trying to say people can die temporarily? That sounds a lot like someone can revive the dead to me.

It's not even about dying temporarily. Are you killed for real when you're playing a game like war or dodgeball?

No...?

[Then something clicks.] Wait, so you're saying there's no actual murders?

Boy, I can't believe it took you this long to figure it out! Yes! Geez, don't you have fake murder mysteries or escape rooms where you come from? Or even dramas and plays?

[Well, this is embarrassing... SIGH.]

Ohhhh! So it's all pretend! Make-believe! [he sighs in relief] Thank goodness. [he clanks over and stands next to Bruno, giving him a pat] You got all worried for nothing, big guy.

Yep! Now, I'm not gonna say it's not going to look real - because it absolutely will! But I can't bring back the dead, and even if I could, it's a huuuuge hassle. Really, I don't even know how Beato can stand doing it!

But everyone will be just fine at the end of this. It's why I said it in red!

In red...? Now that you mention it, when you said that, I did get an impression of red! Somehow...

Why couldn't she have said it was fake from the start?

Well, she kind of did? She did say no one would die permanently. But it's probably because Miss Lambdadelta wants to have some fun, too. [he pats Scarred a bit, hoping to be comforting] We found it out in the end, so that's what matters.

[She's just going to hide behind her gloved hands.]

I thought she had a way of resurrecting the dead.

I don't know that even Miss Lambdadelta can do something like that... is there someone you're missing...?

What? ...No. I thought she meant if someone was killed here. If there was a way to something like that, it'd have to be prepared in advance.

Oh! Ah... sorry. I didn't... I guess I got the wrong impression. My bad.

[It gets him a smile and a light laugh, how sweet.]

Oh, no! No it's fine... It's less... one specific person, and more my entire life... My wish is to protect my time by stopping something in the past... I just don't know what it is yet.

I know it seems impossible... but I've done it before! I travelled back to the past, and changed things in MY time! ... It just... didn't work out like I planned. I changed things, but they're no better than they were before...

You can't change the outcome of something. Maybe how things reached that point, but it all ends the same.
