Intro log: Welcome to The Resort!

INTRO LOG

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.

Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.

There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...

Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.

So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.

This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

[ She shrugs her shoulders. ] And you're welcome. I wasn't going to, anyway. Just isn't in my character.

No...? You must be the helpful sort of person instead, then.

[That's how she comes across to him...!!]

Huh?

[ She's caught completely off guard by a statement she earnestly did not expect, evidenced by the slight surprise in her features. ]

I'm not really that helpful. [ Don't get the wrong impression!! ]

[messianic]

[... Sure.]

Mm... okay, if you say so. That was just my impression, anyway.

[(He will continue to believe it.)]

Do you know where we are?

[dereban]

I guess I could have worse first impressions.

[ She does, however, sigh, face in her hands, pinching the bridge of her nose, before answering his question. ] Nope. No idea. At all. I tried asking a few people and got the same answer, apparently.

[messianic]

[Well. That sounds fair to him.]

So we're all lost and confused together...

[...]

Well, at least we know none of the kidnappers are with us now.

[dereban]

Guess so, unless one of us is lying about not being kidnapped, but what are the odds of that?

[messianic]

[He thinks about it for a moment...and then shrugs.]

It sounds like a lot of effort to mistrust everyone here just in case, so I'm just going to assume everyone's in the same boat.

[That's not 100% logical but it's fine.]

It'll be easier that way.

You're calling her out, because that's her mindset right about now, but she's not going to show it in her face? ]

[OOPS.]

Hm... I think so. Maybe it's a little odd, but that's just how I feel.

[He'd rather trust everyone, and so he will. It's... probably not the wisest life choice, but it's a very Minato life choice.]

I know it's not that easy for everyone, though... and that's fine too. People have their reasons for feeling the way they do.

[dereban]

[ Note to self: definitely keeping an eye on Minato. ]

[ But she's going to put her hand on his shoulder. ]

Please take care of yourself.

[ Inaba is now extremely worried for him and she hates this. ]

[messianic]

[He is feeling...just a tad bit like he's being judged here a little. He doesn't mind it, not really, but...

Well. He just blinks, but tilts his head with an accepting nod.]

I'll do my best...?

[dereban]

[ He absolutely is, no doubt. ]

By the way, what's your name?

[messianic]

It's Minato. Minato Arisato.

[Peacefully!]

The circumstances may not be great, but it's nice to meet you even so.

... Arisato, then.

[ In spite of her being Japanese, she's very much a 'who gives a shit about honorifics unless they're an adult or need something important from them' kind of person. ]

And it's Inaba Himeko.

[messianic]

[He doesn't seem to mind, at least. Politeness is a social construct, etc etc.]

Inaba-san. [Confirming!]

Do you want to walk together for awhile while we try to find some shelter?

[dereban]

[ It really is, there's honestly no refuting that. ]

Sure, why not? I don't think it'll hurt anyone if we walk together.

[ She's not bothered by it and it's better than walking alone, she's she's truly afraid of right now. ]

[messianic]

Alright--let's go, then.

[ONWARD... down this snowy path.

He'll at least keep the conversation going as they walk, though. It's not like they have anything better to do.]

It's a little reassuring to meet someone else from Japan here, honestly.

[dereban]

[ And following beside him, trying to keep her pace alongside his. ]

Haha... I'm just glad someone recognizes Japan. I talked to someone earlier who didn't recognize it. Or even Europe for that matter. So, on that topic... where in Japan are you from?

[messianic]

Yeah... it's strange, isn't it?

[He's not sure what to make of it yet, so he hasn't been thinking too hard about it. It's. Kind of a lot to process.

I'm from Port Island, though. What about you?

[dereban]

Yeah, it's definitely pretty strange.

[ It's on the level of Heartseed Strange, but she's fairly certain it wouldn't do this. ]

And I've never heard of Port Island. . . but I'm from Yokohama, myself.

[messianic]

Huh... you haven't?

[That's odd...]

I've heard of Yokohama. It's not that far away, honestly. I guess Port Island isn't that large, so... [??? Maybe?

(Sorry, Minato, it's fictional.)]

Definitely not... but admittedly, I don't exactly remember every last place in Japan because I'd probably lose my mind after remembering all the prefectures.

[ She says those words half-jokingly. Japan has forty-seven prefectures, after all, so it's already A Lot. ]

Well, Yokohama's like... the second biggest city in Japan, I'm not surprised.

[messianic]

That's true.

[Yokohama's an easy one to remember... and it's true that Japan has a lot of prefectures, it's still just...

... Hm, well, he probably shouldn't really spend much time worrying about it.]

I guess in the long run it doesn't really matter much anyway. We're still both from Japan, and that counts for something.

[At least it's not all fairy tale lands and video game sounding shenanigans.]

[ She just hums a little bit to herself, like she's not really sure about agreeing or disagreeing on anything. ]

Guess so, although kidnapping people from various parts of Japan is kind of worrying?
