Intro log: Welcome to The Resort!

Before you even open your eyes, you can tell something is not right. It's cold. Not quite unbearably so, but cold enough that you can take notice of it. And as soon as you open your eyes, you will be able to see why it's so cold: you're in the middle of a snowy forest, with only a single two-lane road cutting through the thick trees.
Unfortunately, you seem to be without transportation. Fortunately, you are wearing warm clothes and snow gear, so freezing isn't an immediate problem. But without transportation, you're in for a long walk ahead of you.
There are others around as well. Other people, just as lost and confused as you are. Everyone seems to be lacking any memory that might explain why everyone is here. As far as anyone knows, all of you were just ripped out of your previous lives and dumped here on this snowy road, wearing snow gear and having any items that are important to you already on hand. And for some of you, you even have a new power, one that you somehow instantly know how to use...
Two ways to go: forward and back. Despite having no indication of which way is the 'right' way, you feel drawn towards one direction in particular. Going 'back' is possible, but you get the feeling that you will be even more lost if you try. And given that you have no food or water on you, it's best to keep moving forward.
So, are you ready to walk? Because you have a long road ahead of you.
((Welcome to The Resort! Your characters will have any objects or animals with them that they should have given their canon point, but are dressed in cold weather clothing.
This prompt is just the first part of the intro log. New top-levels will go up over the course of the weekend as everyone progresses from 'where the hell am I?' to the resort proper, and to getting settled in. For now, just start with this prompt. We'll link further updates here for easy access.))

But then the pain stops and George's eyes snap open.
He's still covered in the blood and jello-like orange goo, but now he's... wearing clean snow gear. And that scares him. He quickly pulls the coat off, throwing it into the snow. It doesn't matter to him if he's going to suffer because of it, he's not exactly in the best mindset to think about this clearly.
After he's finished with that, he finally looks around at his surroundings. A forest, a road, and other people here with him. It's clear thar he's not anywhere near the outpost now.
If anyone looks his way or approaches him, he'll try and kick the coat and snow at them, in an unsuccessful attempt to delay them and keep some distance between them.]
Stay away from me!
no subject
I'm sorry, but... If you stay like that, you're going to freeze...
no subject
Atsushi has seen enough of those to know to stay the hell away and look as nonthreatening as possible. It's fine, he can wait it out. But he will be nearby, watching Bennings carefully for any sign that he's calming down.]
no subject
Jesus--calm down, we're not gonna hurt you. We're just gonna stick together and try to figure out where to go, alright?
[She's trying to keep her voice as level as possible--don't want to accidentally rile up this guy even more.]
no subject
[He backs away a bit.]
Give me your word that you people won't try anything funny.
no subject
[Ripley spreads her arms, as if trying to demonstrate this fact. Her voice remains firm and level. It'd be nice if she still had her flamethrower, though--it'd be useful in clearing something of this snow.]
Listen, none of us know where we are, or how we got here. It'd be better for all of us if we worked together to try and get to safety. Of course, that means you have to get it together, got it?
no subject
Okay.
[Bennings takes a deep breath.]
I'll put my trust in you for now. What's your name?
no subject
[She tilts her head towards Bennings. Best not to make too many sudden movements and lose his trust. She needs at least One Other competent adult in her corner. Unfortunately, she's not going to find one here.]
Your turn.
no subject
[Wait.]
Or, well, I used to be.
no subject
[She snorts, her voice turning slightly bitter.] What, did your outpost get attacked by an alien, too?
[She's joking, of course.]
no subject
Yeah, we did. It was the shape-shifter kind.
no subject
I can't tell if you're joking or not.
[Said in a flat tone.]
animal death mention
[Wait for it...]
And it almost got me too.

[Medic frowns, tapping his chin. Hypothermia, maybe? Severe hypothermia can lead to shedding clothes under the mistaken impression that one is too warm... But this seems more like blind panic.
Hallucinations, traumatic response- those seem more likely. And what is that jell-o like substance?
Medic drops to his haunches and approaches Bennings slowly, trying not to startle him too badly.]
You're alright. Look, I'm a doctor. We're not hurting you, yes?
... Put your coat back on, before you start to freeze.
[His bedside manner needs some fine-tuning. It's an unfortunate side effect of working eith mercenaries for years.]
no subject
[He tenses up as medic approaches him, but doesn't back away.]
And I'm not putting that coat back on. I have no clue if it's safe or not.
[Which might seem silly, but again, he's not in the best mindset right now.]
no subject
[Medic thinks it over.]
Would you prefer to trade coats, then?
no subject
He silently nods. Yes.]
no subject
It's a little snug on him, but Medic doesn't mind. He hands his old coat back to Bennings.]
Better?
no subject
Similar to Medic's situation when he puts the coat, it's a little big on him. Not that he minds, though. Bigger coats tend to make him feel more secure. He lets himself relax just a bit.]
You have a bird with you?
no subject
Yes! This is Archimedes.
[Archimedes coos irritably as he pushes his way back into the warmth of Medic's coat. It's a tighter squeeze than he's used to, but in a good way. Very soft and snug.]
no subject
[It's always cool when people don't give their pets super unoriginal names.]
One of the guys back at the outpost has a husky named Toothpick. [canon is fake and i can name them whatever i want because they have no actual names]
Anyway, what kind of bird is he? Dove?
no subject
[Previous owner = the dude Medic stole his birds from]
Technically speaking, he's a homing pigeon, but dove works too! They're in the same family, and the terms are often interchangeable.
no subject
[Medic is really valid for that.
Also, Bennings is finally going to offer Medic his hand for a shake. Accept his gross slimy hand if you wish?]
Thanks for helping me out, by the way.

Goodness me, such aggression. Are you alright...?
