INVESTIGATION

The wakeup is familiar - yet not any less nerve-wracking. Though you have survived the night, the knowledge that the Mafia - the monsters - have killed is ringing loudly in your mind.

The hotel speakers crackle to life just like before, drawing your attention and startling you. Heart racing, you listen to the announcement...

...And there seems to be ominous music in the halls...

[for a moment there is nothing but deafening silence, the words of the intercom announcement echoing in Akira's head]

[and then, wherever he is. . . he whirls around on his heel and slams his fist against the wall, shoulders hunched]







FUCK!

Akira!

[she sounds panicked, and before anything else-- she waves the UV light over him, revealing what she feared.

Puppy prints are all over him.]

Oh no, oh no, no, no....

[and his plan didn't work. So... what was this even for?]

-- Makoto!

[he forces himself to stand up straight to face her, just as she waves the UV light over his body to reveal the paw prints and as soon as he sees them. . .]

[e digs his fingers underneath his glasses, pressing them tightly against one eye]

Shit. . .!

[COULD THIS DAY GET ANY WORSE]

[she just.... grabs his wrist, like she's trying to steady him, and maybe herself?]

[she bites her lip, and closes her eyes tightly. Keep it together]

We need to talk later.

[purrtagonist]

[a deep breath in, a slow breath out. he forces himself to look up, even though the lenses of his glasses mask his expression]

[he nods]

[Hey Akira.

Someone's grabbing your sleeve.]

[jerks his head up and blinks at him, eyes wide and a bit dazed]

. . . Atsushi.

[moonlightbeast]

[He's thunking his forehead against whatever part of Akira he can. Preferably the shoulder, but he's not picky.]


I should have stayed with her.

[purrtagonist]

[he'll get the shoulder! Akira isn't pulling away]

I was right there , why didn't I stay?

[Hey so yeah, that tone he's using might sound familiar.]

[purrtagonist]

[oh. oh. yeah, he knows that tone]

Listen, Atsushi-- not your fault.

[focusing on someone else panicking is enough to snap Akira out of his own shock]

Iwai stayed with me last night, and he still was targeted. That's how these monsters work.

It's not your fault for not staying with her, okay?

[On some level he knows Akira is right. Even if he had stayed, he would have just fallen asleep. But it's still hard to accept, given how lightly he usually sleeps.]

She's not a fighter, she must have been terrified.

[it's extremely hard to accept, and Akira may be somewhat of a hypocrite for trying to assuage Atsushi's guilt when his gnaws at the lining of his stomach. but. . . hey, he's like that]

We can still talk to her.

. . . we should check in, to see if she's okay.

...mmm. Alright. I'll talk to her later.

[It's still hard to tell, but. He's calmed down a bit for now, at least?]
