Week 3: Sleepover with Karaoke!

[The weekend is ever-creeping towards them, which means it's time for another gathering -- this time in the newly-accessible second floor, which comes with some of the amenities of the first but better. The soft room is pretty much ideal for this sort of thing, and if there are any windows someone's probably hung a blanket against the void.

Extra kotatsu from long-ago sleepovers have been brought up, there are snacks and drinks scattered amongst the endless blanket nests and pillow forts, and karaoke and the animal cafe are just next door. They can choose to head out for those attractions or bring in the pet animals of the cafe if they'd like. Anything is possible if you believe.]

...I mean, I first tried them yesterday, but...

[Continues drinking her sugary drink, because of course she does.]

They're games, more or less. The graphics don't really compare to VR, but they're interesting anyways?

Oh, are they like the games on the tablet?

...

I don't know what VR is either, ssso....

They are, but they're on a bigger screen and have special controllers.

As for VR... Think about it like a giant training ground that controls all of your senses to make you feel like you're on a battlefield, without any of the danger.

...so it's like your mind goes into a different world, but your body's still where it's supposed to be?

...

...

Kind of like this?

Ah, it's a bit different from that. It's more like... You have a big room, and people can control every aspect of it? So they can make it so that the room seems like a large forest, or an elaborate cave system. The size of the room doesn't actually change, but there are ways to make it seem larger than it actually is. And they can also put "enemies" and in there for a person to fight, and they'll act like the real thing, though since it's not real, the worst that'll happen is you'll get a bit hurt.

[So the VR is basically a holodeck, rather than a dive capsule.]

Oh, so it's an illusion of some kind that's meant to be helpful instead of confusing? Okay, that makes sense, I think.

That's a good way of thinking of it, yeah. I'm not sure on the details of how it works exactly, but the scientists are really proud of it! To the point where they actually gave it a nickname... Renda, I think they called it?

Oh, that's neat! I think it sounds like it actually might be kinda fun to mess around in, especially if you can tweak it however you like.
