RECORDING 13: THE FIFTH WEEK.

A fifth week in this place begins, with less of your number among you. It's practically routine at this point, isn't it?

Routine, also is the feeling when you wake up - it's clear the Miasma has gotten even thicker. Now everyone is at level 4 - barring the two 'lucky' negators among you, you are all suffering the effects, your eyes flashing a deep, dark purple when experiencing negative emotion.

Any magic that touches the house itself will corrode over time, just like last week. If a barrier is put in place and touches the floor, walls, or ceiling, in a few hours it will be completely consumed by the miasma and fizzle out. Spells or seals will also give off miasma, and healing is still reduced to even the most powerful of spells only healing minor injuries.

You will not be able to save a grievously injured person from death through spells anymore.

The Temperature has taken another dip. It's now in the 50's, and nippy to need a layer or two. As before, the rooms have changed, so hopefully you kept anything essential in the static area.

17 of your number still remain.

...What new horrors await you this week?

WARNING: Some investigations of new areas will contain traps that may be harmful or even lethal.

Ah... well, the stories are really interesting, you know? Seeing how he solves the mysteries is fun to read, and especially when it’s all through the eyes of Watson.

[ he laughs softly, through the pain as he diverts his attention away from the injury and towards the conversation. ]

But I just enjoy reading in general. Not that I have much free time, but it’s always really fun to see how people used to see the world and the stories that were written and passed down by generations.
sageking: (> I'm reminded)

[personal profile] sageking 2020-05-12 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He'll listen to the red head's answer thoughtfully, one of his fingers tapping lightly at his side for a moment. ]

Hm. Well I've never read of his mysteries much. But, I suppose they may prove to be worth my time some day. I might find more interest in that rival of his, Moriarty.

That said, it's hardly surprising to know my Doctor is well-read, and knows the value in a good story or book.

[personal profile] finalring 2020-05-13 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, well, Moriarty doesn't actually show up a lot. Really, he was created as a sort of plot device to be Sherlock's arch-nemesis in order to kill him off. He's only relevant in two stories, one of them being The Final Problem, which is where he shows up.

[ oops. sorry for crushing your dream. ]

But people were distraught by the fact that Conan Doyle had done such a thing that he was forced to bring him back to life.
sageking: (> I HATE WAR)

[personal profile] sageking 2020-05-13 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ Oh no, how terrible...well, he's actually a little disappointed. But he's used to being as much, anyway. Still!!! ]

He's much more popular than I anticipated. That said, both of them certainly don't seem like the type to merely...watch situations from afar and do nothing.

[ ... ]

Well, if you had the chance to say something to them, what would it be? For curiosity's sake, of course.

[personal profile] finalring 2020-05-13 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you have no idea. People have made so many adaptations of Sherlock Holmes and his adventures. But Moriarty was definitely something like an underdog--even if he was supposed to be evil, he really was inspiration for the whole arch-nemesis deal!

[ he laughs, although the question does throw him off slightly. if he could say anything? ]

Oh...oh man, I have no idea, actually. I mean, they're incredible figures, even if they were "fictional". Maybe I'd ask Sherlock Holmes to tell me his favorite case and I'd like to know if Moriarty really wanted to be a criminal mastermind, or if he feels that he was forced into it after losing his job as a professor. I'm really just curious about them, you know?

[personal profile] sageking 2020-05-13 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Doesn't it just? Though it seems part of how he's uh...directing this conversation was having a positive effect. One of the two things he's wanted to get from this, anyway. ]

An underdog? Well, people do seem to enjoy those. Maybe some fools out there would believe us to be something similar, if they knew of us.

[ He'll finally summon away his axe as well and get up on the same bed as Romani just because he could. ]

And with how excitedly you're going on about them right now, it'd be foolish for me not to be able to tell you were curious. But now that I've joined you properly, you should...lean a little closer, or as much as you can. It isn't so unusual for those in our position to desire to whisper sweet nothings, hm?

Are we so different. Mm, well, maybe we are, since you're here.

[ he tries to give the king a winning smile, though it will no doubt fail at being such a thing. it's sheepish and even just a bit anxious-- aside from the pain that he was trying so hard to ignore.

but at the king's suggestion, romani won't protest it. he moves next to the king, leaning against his shoulder and intertwining their fingers. ]

As you wish, my King.

[ A smile appeared on his lips briefly at that at that. He could almost feel it ripe for the perfect, romantic mood...

...

...If only they weren't in this shitty place, honestly.

Because of things, he may have to willingly shatter it into pieces in the next few moments. He'll shift slightly so he could speak words closer to his ear. ]

You are not wrong, Doctor. For that I will grant you some praise, such as the surprising abundance of endurance you've shown to me in these last few weeks. But speaking honestly, even in such a place, having the beauty of privilege to see what endearing expressions you've made as a result of turning your loving gaze to me has been exhilarating.

Even seeing how your favor for those detectives affected you in such an adorable manner was worth the ego-stroking they probably hardly needed.

[ The door to the room gently shuts closed with an easy wind spell and he'll give the red head's hand a squeeze. And the wind picked up, distorting the sound around them for privacy's sake.

...The room might be a little mess later but they can deal with it later. Romani can hear his voice just fine up close. ]

Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to say I was only doing this to see you in a pleasing position and blush under or beside me, that's not true.

As you might imagine, the usual occurred, and I have seen even farther past those 'games' and a glimpse of what's to come.

But this time I'll give you a choice:

Do you want to hear what I've seen, even in our current state? Do you wish for me to save it for it later? Just by asking these questions I've no doubt that you can figure the reasoning for them.

[ of course they can’t be allowed to have this moment. why would they? while his reaction is mostly out of instinct (his cheeks growing warm, the accelerated heartbeat), it settles quickly when he sees the wind gust door slam shut and...take everything else with it.

well, hopefully gin won’t be too angry if he sees this place a wreck.

as for gilgamesh’s question, it does bring some hesitation on romani’s end. the fact that he’s even offering this makes him wonder if it is about their situation—not the 6350s in general, but something legitimately involving this mission. did they fail? did they succeed? who died? did he die?

those are the things that plague romani’s thoughts now. his hold on gilgamesh trembles slightly, and he has to take a few deep breaths to settle himself. or at least, attempt to. ]

I can’t back down now, King Gilgamesh. If it can aid us, then it’s necessary to know. And, if it’s proof of our deaths, then... it will be motivation to struggle further. Either way, I should help you carry the weight of this knowledge. It’s...my duty, after all.
sageking: (> Doubt is crying out)

[personal profile] sageking 2020-05-14 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, it will not truly aid us like the vision I saw back in Uruk.

But, I will remember what you said. We will see this together through the end, and perhaps that will be the final comfort we will have.

[ And so, Gilgamesh will tell him.

He'll tell him of the journey of the Foundation agents to the Hayes Mansion, what transpired there including the big ol' fight, and all the events leading up to the agents obtaining the tapes to watch the 'Winchester Incident'. The dossiers included of course, which, hmm. Don't need to spell out how bad that looked for them, especially when Gilgamesh explicitly mentioned that this is an incident twenty years into the future.

Of course the he did bring up the fact that there is a barrier around the Winchester House that's weakening...and then he'll look unamused when he mentioned this as well. ]

I will do well to mention that agent's name at least to the others. Bringing up the rest will undoubtedly destroy what little of morale there even was in the first place.

....

[ romani listens to gilgamesh in silence. about those scp-6350s that had already gone through so much, now watching them the same way one would watch an old television show.

decommissioned dossiers. tapes. a weakening barrier. twenty years in the future.

to be frank, there is a thousand things that romani thinks about saying. he feels the news eat at him faster than the miasma does, sinking him deep into his own thoughts and anxieties. if those people are looking for them, then it means that they failed to escape the house--perhaps, they may even be dead. but that hope was foolish from the start, wasn't it? from the moment they took a step into the house, there was no escaping it.

that's right. they were doomed from the start, and everything they've done was a useless struggle against the current.

he draws in a shaky breath, trying his best to keep himself from crying in front of the king. the last thing romani wants is to look pathetic in front of gilgamesh. ]

[ deep breaths, romani.

think. think.

his mind still races at a thousand miles per hour out of the sheer anxiety that plagues him now, and romani's not even sure if that's himself or the miasma anymore. and when he talks, he's not too sure if it's because he's just trying to reassure himself. ]

If there's a barrier...it means that we succeeded, somewhat. We managed to contain the anomaly, at least for twenty years. That's...a long time. And if they're seeing us, then those people will undoubtedly be able to avoid committing our mistakes. Maybe we won't be alive but...I believe that, at the very least, they'll be able to do something.

[ but if that's the case, then why does he feel so scared? why is he so terrified of the future that awaits them?

easy.

he doesn't want to die. ]

[ For a moment, Gilgamesh frowned, watching Romani's reaction, still holding his hand tightly and securely as his gaze bore into the other.

He wondered if he should've kept such a burden just to himself. For all of Romani's efforts, he did have concerns about how much he could handle, despite the other's assertion that he'd take knowing the higher likelihood of their deaths as motivation to struggle harder.

People can say one thing, but it was a different matter entirely of facing it down. ]

It's possible we've done other things as well, though the nature of them had not been privy to myself, unfortunately. Regardless, what we've done has attracted the attention of the Foundation, though as you can surmise, it's taken awhile for them to be able to act.

[ Which half seemed to be incompetence and half through the complexity of the magic involved. Though, as time went on, he had a feeling that ma...no, he'll keep his thoughts from assuming until he was able to prove it for sure. ]

Now that you know this, you must also know that this isn't over. If this is the most likely possibility... in which a barrier could last for twenty years even against this creature, it's clear that we're not entirely helpless. Let that also be part of your motivation to keep moving forward, Doctor. I won't expect anything less from you.

Right.

[ he breathes out an uneasy sigh as he says this, as romani's mind is still spinning its wheels on the fact that it's been twenty years. he can feel the king's eyes on him, probably studying his every movement--

he has to stay strong--acting as such won't nearly be enough under his scrutiny.

but he nods. ]

I'll do my best to keep my motivation up. It's the only choice we have.
