WEEK 2

With the nature of this 'game' out, the resort might not look so welcoming anymore. The staff are still ready to jump in and serve guests in any way they can, provided a request doesn't make them short-circuit, and the resort itself seems as warm and cheery as usual. But everyone knows the truth now. This resort is hiding some pretty big secrets, and it's only a matter of time before someone else turns up dead.

The weather is holding steady, at 'cold but still safe for outdoor activities'. The temperature seems to be dipping lower each day, though, and the previously-blue sky is starting to stay grey more often than not. Could that signal an approaching snowstorm? Who know. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Another piece to the puzzle, one step closer to finding the truth of this place. But it might not be enough to put everything together yet, that might take some more time.

Most importantly, everyone needs to get to know each other. This 'game' is one of 'know your enemies', and your very survival depends on knowing when someone is acting odd.

I share the same sentiment. And I think a lot of people would probably agree with me.

But you're infringing on their privacy without their permission! Thoughts are meant to be just that-- things that are personal, that nobody can hear. Sometimes people keep secrets to protect others, [ speaking from ACTUAL PERSONAL EXPERIENCE here ] and what people want isn't exactly what's best for them? Not to mention that it...

[ Okay, holy shit, she can't help but feel her voice suddenly shake and it's honestly hard to hold in just how-- ]

[He just blinks up at her through the transparent hologram screens, confused. The videos continue playing, unwatched.]

[It's just... something he could do. For as long as he can remember, so long as he has the means to convert it.]

It really, really is. The fact that someone can read your mind and not vice versa? It honestly is really scary.

But if I read someone's mind, that just means I can give them exactly what they want. Isn't that a good thing?

You can't just-- [ oh my god ] I just said. That what what people want might not always be good? And you can't always give someone what they want because you've read their mind, either!

I wouldn't kill someone just because someone else wanted it. But stuff like... getting a certain item, or getting to call me a certain name, or being able to live life without me in the way...

Stuff like that is fine, isn't it? Especially if it makes them happy.

Why is she surrounded by people that prioritize other people that aren't themselves. Just going to suck in a breath. ]

Because people are more than their thoughts, their wants. People can't be happy, they can't be fulfilled by that. They're more... complex than that?

[ Although she looks kind of surprised at herself for giving this speech. ]

But I can tell their feelings, too! All I have to do is look.

Seeing their emotions and thoughts doesn't always mean you can fix the problem. And again, it's all meant to be private. You can't just do that to other people... not without their permission.

But if I don't do it, I'll never know what they really want.

That's why you talk to people-- [...] And honestly? You don't always need to know what people want. Most of us don't? You should honestly care about yourself a little more.

But not because I told you to.

Asking me to talk to people is just setting up for a disaster!

[He says it with laugh, lighthearted.]

It's okay, though. I'd rather devote myself to other people than try to care about someone I hate!

You do know that this entire game is set up so that people need to talk to others?

[ Not that she necessarily likes it, but it's definitely something that she has to say. ]

You shouldn't have to, though. Like... living your life solely for others and not for yourself is honestly really sad?

Yeah... Maybe that's why I'm so bad at it.

Well... I guess you can only learn with experience. Communication is key to any relationship, after all.

So I just need to talk to people more?

[dereban]

Basically, yeah. Talking is now a lot of people get friends, really. We can't understand each other otherwise.

Then if I talk to you more, we can become friends?

Maybe, maybe not. It depends, you know? But the possibility is there.

Making friends is hard...
