WEEK 2

With the nature of this 'game' out, the resort might not look so welcoming anymore. The staff are still ready to jump in and serve guests in any way they can, provided a request doesn't make them short-circuit, and the resort itself seems as warm and cheery as usual. But everyone knows the truth now. This resort is hiding some pretty big secrets, and it's only a matter of time before someone else turns up dead.

The weather is holding steady, at 'cold but still safe for outdoor activities'. The temperature seems to be dipping lower each day, though, and the previously-blue sky is starting to stay grey more often than not. Could that signal an approaching snowstorm? Who know. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Another piece to the puzzle, one step closer to finding the truth of this place. But it might not be enough to put everything together yet, that might take some more time.

Most importantly, everyone needs to get to know each other. This 'game' is one of 'know your enemies', and your very survival depends on knowing when someone is acting odd.

[He gestures towards Ripley.]

It was my idea, but she made them, pretty much.

[purrtagonist]

Did she teach you how? Between this and Iwai's skills, you're going to be pretty dangerous, Hunter.

[wrongtiming]

Iwai's...? [He pauses, blinking, then shakes his head.] Oh, no, I already knew how to... do that thing I talked to you about.

[Regardless, though, it gets a soft huff of a laugh.]

Right. Me, dangerous.

[purrtagonist]

[. . . GENTLE SNORT]

You sound skeptical.

[wrongtiming]

Well, yeah. I mean...

[Just. Gestures to all of himself, like that's any kind of explanation.]

[purrtagonist]

Looks can be deceiving.

[pushes his (taped up) glasses with his forefinger, as though illustrating a point]

[wrongtiming]

[A small laugh.]

Yeah, but in my case, looks aren't really hiding intense supernatural powers.

[purrtagonist]

In the real world, I don't have any supernatural powers at all. Well, usually.

[the resort being an exception]

Either way, you don't need powers to be dangerous. Iwai is kind of like that.

[wrongtiming]

That's still significantly cooler than not having them at all, you know.

[But he shrugs.]

I guess, but you're still off base. I'm just normal, you know?

[purrtagonist]

[hmmmm]

How do you feel about "being normal?"

[complete with air quotes]

[wrongtiming]

It's not a big deal to not be extraordinary if you're not in a situation where it makes a huge difference, right?

[Like here or the academy. Still... He smiles a little as he thinks, reminded of someone.]

My mom used to get on my case for saying stuff like that.

[purrtagonist]

Mmm. Your mom probably thought you were amazing, and wanted you to see yourself that way too. As she should.

[wrongtiming]

Yeah, she did.

[He thinks about saying something else, but instead:]

Thanks, man.

[purrtagonist]

Don't mention it.

And thank you, for still trying.

[wrongtiming]

Yeah, totally. You too, you know?

[He gives a slightly more sincere smile.]

[purrtagonist]

[he laughs, but it's short and breathless]

There isn't any other option for me but trying.

[wrongtiming]

I mean, there is, you're just not going to take it. And... That's pretty cool.

[purrtagonist]

[. . . a small shrug]

It's just the kind of person I am.

I don't believe we should all have to lie back and "take it," no matter how hopeless things may seem.

[wrongtiming]

[A pause, and a small laugh.]

You're allowed to just take the compliment, you know.

[purrtagonist]

[but he isn't used to compliments!1]

What if I told you I don't know how to take a compliment?

[wrongtiming]

Do you need lessons?

[He can't hide the way his lips quirk up into a smile, even as he tries to keep a straight face.]

[purrtagonist]

Are you offering to be my sensei? I don't know, I may be a pretty tough student.

[wrongtiming]

I don't know. You seem pretty sharp to me.
