WEEK 2

With the nature of this 'game' out, the resort might not look so welcoming anymore. The staff are still ready to jump in and serve guests in any way they can, provided a request doesn't make them short-circuit, and the resort itself seems as warm and cheery as usual. But everyone knows the truth now. This resort is hiding some pretty big secrets, and it's only a matter of time before someone else turns up dead.

The weather is holding steady, at 'cold but still safe for outdoor activities'. The temperature seems to be dipping lower each day, though, and the previously-blue sky is starting to stay grey more often than not. Could that signal an approaching snowstorm? Who know. There is still music playing in the halls, and the cover songs continue with some low-key music for the week.

On Monday morning, another memory is returned to everyone. Another piece to the puzzle, one step closer to finding the truth of this place. But it might not be enough to put everything together yet, that might take some more time.

Most importantly, everyone needs to get to know each other. This 'game' is one of 'know your enemies', and your very survival depends on knowing when someone is acting odd.

It's an accessory, for the shows I put on. And it's a useful tool.

[It stops her and other people from falling off like, high places and D-boards and shit. Honestly the show never explains why she's the only avatar with a weapon aside from the guy who literally shoots people to delete them so who even knows here.]

Still, I think there are ways to defend ourselves other than combat and hiding, right? Smoke bombs or something.

We'll need a range of alternatives, we still don't know what we're up against.

I'd definitely feel better with more options. I think everyone else would, too.

[Even if she has no idea how to make a smoke bomb or anything.]

Thanks, though. I thought of it because of Appy-kun. He set booby traps in his room -- they were just ink and glitter, but it's better than nothing.

The more, the merrier, right?

[Being told the Apprentice set up something like that...it's certainly a mental image. Amusing, initially, until he remembers the circumstances. Just what kind of person was that guy, anyway?]

I don't think ink and glitter will do much in a fight. [...] But in the worst case, it'll mark someone for being there. It's hell to wash out.

[She makes a face, but compared to earlier in the meeting she's starting to be a bit more animated, rather than just following and responding.]

I don't like thinking that making it easier to figure out who murdered us is the best we can do, but well... I guess it's also making ourselves really annoying victims to pick.

That might be your best defense until we figure out more about that thing.

[Or, things, plural.]

I guess the staff won't mind giving us materials we need. It's for their 'game' after all.

More or less. I've been on missions where I've only used what's available on-site.

[City girl here. What are wilderness survival skills and all that in general. She is going to be picking up all kinds of new knowledge here.]

[He grunts a little, with some discomfort.]

My old mentor taught me how to survive on the battlefield above all else.

[She is not yet knowledgeable enough to classify the language of grunts, but she can at least kind of interpret that it is a Potentially Difficult Topic. Or Snake had some bad eggs for breakfast.]

You're really all in for your job, huh? Like an actual agent.

[He is an actual agent, Aoi. She still hasn't figured out why she ended up being an agent in the memory-dream, so it's a weird thought.]

[Once again, though his grunts are hard to classify, he doesn't sound too jazzed about it.]

[She doesn’t bother prying further in that direction — she gets the feeling at some point it would just devolve entirely into grunts, anyway.]

I’m kind of wishing I picked up some more self-defense or mafia tips before ending up here.

[She gives a little sigh, but it’s mostly for show. They’re all just really unlucky.]

Have you ever run into anything like this before? Not exactly like, but — as bad as this.

That can only prepare you so much for the real thing. You'll never know if you're ready until you're there.

[Then...it's only a matter of if you're cut out for it or not, the price for discovery pretty high.]

I don't think most people are ever going to be ready for something like this. I just...

[She's used to feeling slightly more useful than this. Because her canon really wants kids to change the world with card games. But also because she's used to having at least half-decent connections.

She drops it. It's getting into complaining territory a little too much.]

... I read your profile, but I don't think I understood most of it.

[He's still not entirely sure how they found that out. His expression darkens a shade.]

It was something close enough.

Yes. That really does sound like some kind of hell.

[She's still not entirely sure what kind, or why something like that would happen -- but she adores her own brother and could not imagine having to fight him. Duel him, maybe, someday... argue, more often than she should, but not a real fight like this.]

There was something else I was wondering about, though. [helpfully changing the subject] Why... cardboard boxes?

[Snake looks taken, slightly, by surprise at the question.]

Why not? They provide perfect cover, saved my ass a few times in sticky situations...

[But not just the tactical benefits of cardboard boxes...]

And they feel...nice. The close four walls, the smell. When it comes to it, there's nothing better than a cardboard box.
