WEEK 1 MINGLE

As dawn approaches on Monday, the contestants are greeted to a beautiful, sunny day. It's the first full week of their time in the house, and after the rather troubling introduction on Saturday it's hard to know just what to expect

For the first week, the surrounding area seems quiet and peaceful. The weather stays a nice 75 degrees during the day, and it dips down to the 50s at night. Comfortable, and without any real disturbances from nature or house. It's almost as if the whole weekend was just a bad dream, and maybe the actual game won't be as bad as Dazai made it out to me.

However, those rules and profiles are still hanging in the living room, a constant reminder of the warnings that have been given. What will happen now? There haven't been any deaths at this containment site in years, but will that change with these new rules? Only time will tell.

Perhaps it's a good idea to enjoy this first week. Go swimming, watch a movie, or just hang out together and get to know each other better. You never know, this might be the last time to see some of the contestants.

I see you plan ahead. Now I see why you made C-class.

If you think that's why I made C-class you need to keep your eyes open.

I was joking, you know?

[ Tilting his head with a slightly mocking smile. How simple... ]

You weren't subtle about your abilities earlier this weak.

I knew you were fuckin' joking! You're just too stupid to see when someone's playing along!! [Truth?? Lie??? Who knows.]

That's quite the typical failsafe tactic you're using there though....

[ He chuckles for a moment, but then changes the topic. Getting into serious odds with Giriko isn't in his interest. ]

What is the earth actually for?

[She flips him off, and then...

considers that they probably should be working together. This whole situation is shit, and George might be a flamboyant mess of a shithead, but he's at least... probably half way capable, and not a child.
]

You know what a golem is?
georgeous: (Mrhmph??)

[personal profile] georgeous 2019-06-27 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
From legend, yes. I haven't had the pleasure in real life.

[ He looks at the amount of dirt piled up with renewed interest, trying to gauge how tall a person you could make from it. ]

Yet, anyway.

This one'll take a while, the assholes in charge took my gloves before this mission so I'll have to program it from scratch. [Someone didn't want her to be able to instantly sic golems on people.

She goes back to her dirt gathering, talking casually as she goes.
]

Back home, we use 'em for basic home security, protection, that kind of shit. Ship them out to other towns and cities, sell 'em to tourists, you know. Figure I could get a couple basic alarm golems whipped up, just in case people start sneakin' around.
georgeous: (Looking down on you)

Huh, now that's convenient. In my world, you'd have had to use robots for that and they're not advanced enough to be fully reliable - on top of the fact that making them is far more resource-intensive.

[ All this magic stuff is at least practical and he's coming to appreciate it more and more as his years in the Foundation drive him further and further to a pragmatic attitude. ]

How much Earth are you going to need?
failsaw: (50)

[personal profile] failsaw 2019-06-29 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
More is better, but the soil here is shit. The yard's too sandy and the garden is potting soil. [She's... mostly just trying to have something to do. She needs to keep moving, and this is better than picking fights with kids.]

If I'm lucky I'll be able to get bricks out of this, but I'll probably have to toss half of them.

[personal profile] georgeous 2019-06-30 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
What kind of soil is actually needed? Clay?

[ That'd fit with the Golems of legend as he's heard of them at least. ]
failsaw: (40)

[personal profile] failsaw 2019-06-30 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, clay's best for golems, especially if I've got to program it from scratch. It's got to be stable enough to withstand the magic and still be able to do shit afterwards.
georgeous: (Condescending)

[personal profile] georgeous 2019-06-30 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Is the mobility what makes actual stone a no-go?

[ Not that clay doesn't also grow hard in reality, but its generally more moldable proportions might be more adaptable to magic. Maybe.

George is a man who knows about aliens, not magic, so this is new to him. And pretty interesting. ]

[personal profile] failsaw 2019-06-30 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, it's more about putting the magic into it. You can't work enchantment into stone as easy.
georgeous: (Please just shut up)

[personal profile] georgeous 2019-07-01 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. I had no idea there was a physical difference in how materials respond to magic. That's fascinating.
failsaw: (37)

[personal profile] failsaw 2019-07-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Enchantments are just about manipulating the underlying structure, see? Clay's easier to work with because you can physically incorporate the information, [she grabs a handful of dirt, tightens her grip so it crumbles through her fingers, a physical example] but if you were tryin' to work with stone bricks you'd have to carve the enchantments into 'em. It's just how it takes the energy.

Sand or snow's even easier, but those kinda golems don't last long.

[personal profile] georgeous 2019-07-05 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Is this kind of magic a learned or an inherent skill in your world?

[ It sounds an awful lot like science only shinier. ]
failsaw: (50)

[personal profile] failsaw 2019-07-05 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
It's both. If you don't have the talent you can't learn it, but a shitton of people who have the talent never get the chance to learn.
