WEEK 1 MINGLE

As dawn approaches on Monday, the contestants are greeted to a beautiful, sunny day. It's the first full week of their time in the house, and after the rather troubling introduction on Saturday it's hard to know just what to expect

For the first week, the surrounding area seems quiet and peaceful. The weather stays a nice 75 degrees during the day, and it dips down to the 50s at night. Comfortable, and without any real disturbances from nature or house. It's almost as if the whole weekend was just a bad dream, and maybe the actual game won't be as bad as Dazai made it out to me.

However, those rules and profiles are still hanging in the living room, a constant reminder of the warnings that have been given. What will happen now? There haven't been any deaths at this containment site in years, but will that change with these new rules? Only time will tell.

Perhaps it's a good idea to enjoy this first week. Go swimming, watch a movie, or just hang out together and get to know each other better. You never know, this might be the last time to see some of the contestants.

Well, for one thing, you gotta press the A button to go, AND steer at the same time. Have you ever driven a car?

No. We didn't have them in my world, and I just take transport to other facilities when I need to.

[She tries pushing A. She is now wobbling away from the wall and losing speed each time she wobbles right back into it.]

I don't drive much either -- I'm too short for cars made for humans, ehehhe... But I have my own race car! It's basically mimicking the idea of pushing down the pedal and steering at the same time.

[Silver shakes his head and sits next to her]

You're moving the control stick around too much. Maybe if I can show you how it's supposed to feel... [Silver's pupils glow blue, and he holds up his hand, surrounded in psychic aura] May I guide your hand?

Please!

[She has no idea what she's doing!!]

Ok! So you push down the "go" button with your right hand... and theeen...

[Silver gently PK's her left hand on the analog stick] See, you mostly just push forward, like this. [demonstrate!] And you don't move it to either side unless you want to turn.... and then you can stay on the road!

[Okay... this definitely seems to be working better!]

So I just need to tilt it a little, not all the way?

Yeah! The more you tilt, the harder you turn. So there are some curves in the road that are real tight and you have to turn harder.

So it's more of a forward movement...

[She's... She's learning! And not crashing into walls!

But then someone hits her with a red shell which is just cruel because she's probably in last place as it is.]

What was that!?

Yeah! Forward is the most important way.

Ooh, ouch. That was a red shell. It's an item that lets another racer slow you down. But you can use that too! Here, let's steer toward those rainbow colored boxes.

[allmyfriendsaredead]

Okay...

[She manages to get her character to run into one, even if it turns out to be more of a graze. The box cycles through options before landing on a blue shell, because she is super far behind everyone else.]

Oh!! That's a great item! That shell will fly through all the racers and hit the person in first place! Here... you press this button to use it.

[Silver will guide her finger to the correct trigger button to throw the shell]

If you're really far behind, the game will give you better items so you can catch up! By the same token, if you're in first, you don't get as good items because you don't need them.

[MISSILE... LAUNCHED

She looks surprised, but it's not like she can see whoever's in first place, so!]

So now I just have to catch up...

[But can she? She's mostly just trundling along now.]

[It'll be pretty difficult... she's pretty far behind]

I think this race may be a lost cause... you're a whole lap behind... but we can do better on the next one!

[She makes a disgruntled sound, shoulders slumping. She'll keep driving along for now, at least, but it's clear the energy isn't there.]

Maybe I'm just not cut out for this.

It's alright.... not very game is for every person. I'm glad you tried, at least!

Maybe someone else should go after me.

[She'd like nothing more than to hand off the controller at this point, really.]
