WEEK 1 - TRIAL

It's been a long night, with the knowledge burning in your brain that one of your number has died. Even if the victim wasn't known very well, this dangerous game of Mafia was still played, and that might be the worst of all. Not only that, but the Apprentice's warning still rings heavy in your minds - especially after seeing the state of Szayel's body.
The Lady appears for once when everyone is gathered, leading you all up the stairs to the third floor, past whatever glimpses of the upper floors you might get. The room she takes you to is, frankly, extravagant. There's snacks and drinks waiting inside, along with....a new person? It's a man, and as The Lady leaves and closes the doors behind her, the man tilts his head up and speaks.
"You can call me The Captain. Since one of you have died during the game, it's your responsibility to try and vote someone out. You have six hours to talk about it, but then-"
He taps on a box on the table in front of him, labeled 'VOTES'
"-you'll have to put in your vote so someone can be punished. Not voting, well...That's a lot like not playing. And trust me - you want to play."
The man sits down at the table, leaning back and placing his feet on the table while crossing his arms.
"So get to it."
As he says that, music begins to play in the room...

[ That's a lot to keep track of. ]
What does the town roles do? Are they there to help?

[SURE IS. mafia is a tough game]
. . . there are a lot of town roles. Not all of them are used in every game. I don't know which ones would be in play, here.

Later, okay? I don't want to give our creatures all of the answers.

[inclines his head a bit at Shirou in acknowledgement, before he goes back to talking to people]

[It's such a bad rulebook that the duelist in her is actually offended, honestly.]
I don't want to give them all the answers, but it seems like we should at least give everyone else a level playing field.
[Also she's not actually 100% on how to play mafia either.....]

[MODERN TEEN ONLY KNOWS HOW TO PLAY B/C I'M SURE HE'S SPENT A COUPLE HOURS ON THE INTERNET PLAYING EPICMAFIA]
. . . I'll level the playing field with you later.

It is starting to sound a lot more complicated than they even want to tell us. What are we supposed to do, guess?
[And it looks like a customized game, too, from what little she understands.]
I'll hold you to that.

So it's entirely likely that there could be town roles who stayed awake but who can't just outright say "I was awake because I was a town role", because it's against the rules.

[Something they're probably missing. Of course she's angry, but she's also well-versed in so-called games being twisted to fit your opponent's rules. Being twisted to fit other people's ends. Sometimes, you just have to accept that the game is stacked against you.
And play it anyway.]
Either way, this is supposed to be a team game, isn't it? There has to be a way that people are working together, on either side.

Technically, nothing is stopping us from passing secret notes to each other.
