TRIAL

It's been a long night, with the knowledge burning in your brain that one of your number has died. Even if the victim wasn't known very well, this dangerous game of Mafia was still played, and that might be the worst of all. Not only that, but the Apprentice's warning still rings heavy in your minds - especially after seeing the state of Szayel's body.

The Lady appears for once when everyone is gathered, leading you all up the stairs to the third floor, past whatever glimpses of the upper floors you might get. The room she takes you to is, frankly, extravagant. There's snacks and drinks waiting inside, along with....a new person? It's a man, and as The Lady leaves and closes the doors behind her, the man tilts his head up and speaks.

"You can call me The Captain. Since one of you have died during the game, it's your responsibility to try and vote someone out. You have six hours to talk about it, but then-"

He taps on a box on the table in front of him, labeled 'VOTES'

"-you'll have to put in your vote so someone can be punished. Not voting, well...That's a lot like not playing. And trust me - you want to play."

The man sits down at the table, leaning back and placing his feet on the table while crossing his arms.

"So get to it."

As he says that, music begins to play in the room...

I was wondering why they would go out of their way to web up Nanase-kun's door... Was it really just to distract us, or was there another reason...?

[Yoshi is not a very threatening kid.]

If it wasn't a distraction, the other conclusion I can draw is maybe it was afraid Yoshi would intrude on it while it was killing.

Or they didn't want anyone getting in.

[Even if that line of reasoning is right, it's not very useful in narrowing things down.]

... That could be a direction to approach from, right...? Like... if there was a reason why Nanase-kun of all people might've been in danger of intruding on them.

[She's also been thinking on the two sides of the coin here. It seems so unlikely Nanashi is the suspect that it's more convenient to just think around him. But hmm.]

That's what sets him apart, right?

It seems possible... But I'm honestly not too familiar with the extent of what he can do.

From what I understand... his eyes convert information to numbers. Any kind of information, visual, audio, maybe even other things.

[Those are some pretty broken eyes, though she's only seen a little of their effects firsthand.]

... Sure seems like they'd at least have some impact here, if he won't let him use them.

That's ridiculous! They want us to try and-- and find a murderer and then won't let us actually have information?

[It's mostly frustration; it's not like she expected this to be particularly fair, or anything, but that's pretty blatant.]

Yeah, it really is. It's obvious that this was never meant to be a real trial...

Early game mafia tends to be more of a lynch mob than a trial...

[Which really doesn't give confidence here.]

But... that's terrible. We can't just do something like that.

[It's not a matter of if they want to do that or not. Still...]

So... I guess we'll have to play it right and get mafia on day one, right?

[She kinda doubts it based on probability, but maybe they'll pull off a miracle or get lucky.]
