Things had changed so rapidly in the past few days.

The loss of two of them hung over like a shroud, made even worse by the fact that an innocent person had been executed.

Was this....how the rest of the game was going to go...?🗈

....Even if it was, there wasn't much they could do now. Yuuko herself hasn't shown up in public since the trial, and while some have talked to her, she's been...subdued.

Did the trial hurt her just as much as them?

Regardless, the island is still beautiful, if deadly. Summer continues, beaming down on all of them, the waves of the sea warm and inviting.

But even if things look bleak...

They have something in their hands that will soon lead to the Truth, and the heart of this matter.

And in the air...lies a heavy sense that everything is about to change.

[It's logical for his room to be used, he's cleared out some unnecessary items and shifted things around for maximum space, and he doesn't smoke. Also he has the first aid kit in his bathroom just in case, so if anything goes wrong he'll be ready to do whatever he can.

Still, it's strange having people gathered in what should be a private space, but maybe the gesture will show certain parties that he's trying to be part of the group.]

If anyone feels overwhelmed when these tests are done, sit down and raise your hand so I can check on you.

[You don't need to thank me is on the tip of his tongue. Ann wants him to try. He has to learn to accept others and their feelings, as well as his own. His voice drops to a murmur that's unsure and almost sheepish.]

[ He gives him a small, friendly smile.

[He tries, he really does, but the small twitch of his lips is stiff, awkward, and mercifully brief. Akira deserves better, but Erhard can't give it, so he just nods once and turns away.]

You know... We should hang out sometime.

[That has Erhard blinking owlishly.]

We... why? I'm not interesting, unless you want to learn about medicine.

[beguiledcard]

[ He smiles. ]

Actually... yeah. I'd like to learn some things from you, if you don't mind.

[cryosurgeon]

Don't tell me you're pre-med in school? It's not like I've done any teaching before, though.

[beguiledcard]

[ His gaze lowers. ]

No... not yet. But, to be honest, I hadn't really considered the kind of path I wanted to take, because my dad was always insisting I follow in his footsteps.

So, I'd like to learn more about medicine, since... helping people is what I want.

[ And... feeling more useful... could do him some good, he thinks... ]

[Erhard looks away, feeling strangely uncomfortable.]

There are people at the Foundation much more qualified to teach you than me. But... if you really want me to get you started somewhere....

[ He gives a somewhat firm nod. ]

I asked you because you're the one I want to learn from.

... then I'll see what I can gather from the library here. You'll have to start with basic biology, unless you've had that extensively in high school already.

[ He smiles. ]

Might be a good idea to at least review, actually.

You might regret this when you see the amount of study it requires. But if you can handle it... with your tenacity, I think you might make a good doctor.

[ He snorts. ]

You really think so?

[ There's something awkward in his smile as he presses a hand to the back of his neck. ]

I think it's worth a shot, at least.
